Office Chair Air Tube Leakage

Admin October 11, 2026

The leakage of the air tube in an office chair needs to be addressed based on the specific cause. Here are common causes and solutions:

1. Aging or damaged seal of the gas cylinder If the seal at the bottom of the gas cylinder ages, cracks, or deforms due to long-term use, it will lead to gas leakage. Solution: Use a wrench or screwdriver to disassemble the bottom components of the gas cylinder. Remove the seal, clean the surface dirt, and check for obvious damage. If the seal is damaged, purchase a new part of the same model for replacement (which can be matched by the model of the old part or the brand of the chair). Ensure that the seal fits perfectly during installation, and finally test whether the chair's lifting function is normal.

2. The gas cylinder falls out or sags If the connection between the gas cylinder and the base is loose or the bottom snap ring or accessories are deformed or lost, it will cause the gas cylinder to fall out or the chair to sink automatically. Solution: Search for 'pneumatic rod accessories' on e-commerce platforms and purchase a universal snap ring (usually costing a few yuan). Install the snap ring back in place according to the instructions to ensure a firm connection between the gas cylinder and the base. If the accessories are severely damaged, contact the manufacturer to obtain original parts.

3. The gas cylinder wobbles Long-term wear of the inner plastic sleeve at the connection between the gas cylinder and the base will cause the chair to wobble when lifting or lowering. Solution: Measure the dimensions of the inner sleeve (such as outer diameter, inner diameter, and height) and purchase a new sleeve of the corresponding specifications for replacement. During installation, press it completely into the connection to avoid gaps that may cause further wear.

4. The gas cylinder sinks automatically If the nitrogen unit or valve inside the gas cylinder leaks and the pressure fails, the chair will not be able to maintain its height. This situation cannot be repaired and the gas cylinder must be replaced. Replacement steps:

  • Choose certified products: Look for safety certification marks such as SGS, BIFMA, and TUV on the gas cylinder. Prioritize brands like Weiyasi and Sanhong to avoid the risk of explosion from inferior products.
  • Accurately match the size: Measure the total length, outer tube diameter, and inner tube diameter of the old gas cylinder, and send photos to the seller to confirm the specifications to ensure compatibility with the chair.
  • Installation and testing: Disassemble the old gas cylinder according to the instructions, install the new part, and test the lifting function to confirm that there is no air leakage or jamming.

โš ๏ธ Precautions

  • Do not attempt to 'inflate' the pneumatic rod or inject grease or weld it yourself, as these methods may cause an explosion.
  • If you are not familiar with the operation, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician for handling to ensure safety.
