Disassembly of Office Chair Air Pump

Admin October 19, 2026

The disassembly of an office chair air pump should be carried out in accordance with standardized steps, as detailed below:

I. Preparing Tools

Before disassembly, prepare tools such as a screwdriver, rubber mallet, lubricant, and a hard object (e.g., an iron block or brick). If replacing the air pump, also prepare a new air pump and compatible parts. The choice of tools should match the material of the components; for example, a rubber mallet can prevent surface damage during striking, and lubricant is used to penetrate connections and reduce disassembly difficulty.

II. Disassembling the Chair Seat

  1. Lubrication and Penetration: Apply lubricant evenly to the connection between the chair seat base and the gas lift cylinder. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes to ensure the lubricant fully penetrates the gaps, softening any clips or rusted parts.
  2. Striking to Separate: Use a rubber mallet to evenly strike the four corners of the chair seat base, using vibration to loosen the connection. If operating alone is difficult, it is recommended to have two people cooperate: one person holds the gas lift cylinder steady while the other strikes the base.
  3. Inverted Striking Method: Invert the chair so that the base faces upward. Use a rubber mallet to strike along the edge of the bottom steel ring, then attempt to pry the base. If it does not separate, repeat the striking and prying actions until the base loosens. This method is suitable for cases where the base is tightly connected to the gas lift cylinder.

III. Separating Related Components

  1. Separating the Five-Star Base from the Gas Lift Cylinder: Apply lubricant to the connection between the five-star footrest and the gas lift cylinder. Strike the bottom periphery of the gas lift cylinder through a cloth to avoid direct striking, which could cause the footrest to lose paint or break. Strike until the connection loosens, then separate the five-star base from the gas lift cylinder.
  2. Disassembling the Base: If the base has been removed, use a screwdriver to remove the fixing screws on the upper seat and separate the upper seat from the gas lift cylinder.

IV. Disassembling the Air Pump Body

  1. Removing the Gas Lift Cylinder: Invert the chair footrest, pull out the casters vertically, align the gas lift cylinder with a hard object on the ground (e.g., an iron block), and strike the top of the gas lift cylinder with a hammer, using the reaction force to pull it out from the chair footrest.
  2. Disassembling the Hydraulic Rod: If the air pump is integrated into the hydraulic rod, strike the metal base with a hammer while holding the rod with your hand or applying auxiliary force with your foot to remove the rod from the base.
  3. Replacing the Air Pump (for Leak Repair):
    • Remove the seat cushion, avoiding scratching the surface; separate the movable star-shaped frame and pull off the plastic cap beneath the seat cushion.
    • After exposing the gas rod, use a screwdriver to press against the air needle and apply force, continuing to press after hearing a popping sound until all gas is expelled.
    • Disassemble the gas rod (the air pump is usually installed between the stainless steel base and the chair steel plate, and can be unloaded from either side), replace it with a new air pump, and then reassemble it. Test whether the chair's lifting function operates normally.

Precautions: Wear gloves during operation to avoid scratches from metal components; strike with moderate force to prevent component deformation; after replacing the air pump, check the sealing of the gas rod to ensure there are no air leaks.
