Office Chair Air Pump
The installation position and operation method of the office chair air pump (cylinder) have no clear front-to-back orientation, and disassembly must follow standard procedures

Installation Position and Operation Logic
The office chair air pump (cylinder) is typically installed vertically between the seat and the base. Its core function is to adjust the seat height through air pressure regulation. Since the cylinder itself has an axisymmetric structure, there is no clear distinction between โfront/backโ directions. The valve position (usually located at the bottom or side) is the key point for operation, rather than front-to-back orientation. When adjusting the seat height, the user needs to trigger the cylinder valve through the adjustment lever beneath the seat: to raise the seat, the valve closes to maintain air pressure; to lower it, the valve opens to release air. The deflation operation is unrelated to the front-to-back position of the chair, but the chair must be flipped so that the base faces upward, allowing direct access to the valve for deflation or maintenance.
Disassembly Process and Precautions
If the air pump needs to be disassembled (e.g., for repair or replacement), follow these steps:
- Flip the chair: Turn the chair upside down so that the base faces upward, ensuring sufficient operating space and preventing parts from slipping.
- Separate the base from the upper seat: Use a rubber mallet to evenly tap around the edge of the baseโs steel ring, loosen the connection, and then attempt to pry the base away from the upper seat. Control the force during this step to avoid damaging the cylinder or seat structure.
- Disassemble the cylinder:
- After removing the upper seat, the metal base plate of the cylinder is exposed. Use a hammer to tap the edge of the metal base plate to further loosen its connection with the cylinder.
- Hold the hydraulic rod of the cylinder (or step on the base with your foot for stability) while pulling the cylinder upward with force. If the connection is too tight, combine tapping and rotating motions to assist in disassembly.
Key Tips:
- Ensure the chair is unloaded (e.g., remove body pressure) before operation to prevent sudden extension or retraction of the cylinder, which could cause accidents.
- Use a rubber mallet instead of metal tools when tapping to reduce damage to the parts.
- If there is still air pressure inside the cylinder, fully deflate it through the valve before disassembly to prevent hydraulic oil splashing or parts ejecting.
The design of the air pump focuses on functionality and stability, with installation and operation centered around air pressure regulation. The distinction between front and back orientations has no practical significance. Mastering the correct disassembly method can extend the chairโs lifespan while reducing repair risks.
