Office Chair Air Permeability Test
The air permeability test for office chairs primarily focuses on the air permeability rate of the mesh material, which is a key parameter for evaluating the chair's heat dissipation and moisture-wicking performance. The test uses the pressure differential method and employs a fully automatic digital fabric air permeability tester, with results expressed in mm/s or mยณ/mยฒ/min.

The air permeability rate directly reflects how easily air can pass through the material and is an important indicator for assessing the performance of the seat cushion and backrest of an office chair. Mesh materials with good air permeability allow air to circulate more smoothly, effectively removing heat and moisture generated by the human body, thereby enhancing comfort, especially during prolonged sitting. This reduces feelings of stuffiness and dampness, lowering the risk of skin discomfort and bacterial growth.
The testing method is based on the principles of textile air permeability testing and uses the pressure differential method. The specific steps are as follows: First, cut a representative sample of standard size from the mesh material of the chair to be tested. Next, securely and flatly attach the sample to the circular fixture of the tester, ensuring there are no leaks between the sample and the fixture, as this would affect the accuracy of the test results. Then, start the instrument and measure the flow rate of stable air passing through the sample under the set test pressure differential. Finally, to ensure the reliability of the results, the same sample should be tested multiple times at different locations, and the arithmetic mean should be taken as the final result.
The main instrument used for testing is a fully automatic digital fabric air permeability tester, which can accurately measure and directly display the air permeability rate value, typically in units of mm/s or mยณ/mยฒ/min. There are differences in air permeability performance among office chairs of different brands and models. For example, the NanoFlex4.0 mesh of the Loctek Y36-Pro has a static air permeability rate of approximately 28 L/mยทs; the CH-589B mesh chair from Guangdong Jingyi Furniture Co., Ltd. has a measured air permeability rate of 280 mm/s; the U-082 mesh chair has an air permeability rate of 260 mm/s; the POLY chair has an air permeability rate of 240 mm/s; and the Ergotron Gold Medal B mesh chair has an air permeability rate of 270 mm/s. These data provide important reference information for consumers when choosing an office chair, allowing them to select the appropriate product based on their own air permeability needs.
