Office Chair Air Cushion Assembly

Admin October 09, 2026

The assembly of the air cushion (pneumatic rod part) of an office chair should be carried out according to the following steps to ensure safety and proper functionality:

1. Connecting the Base and the Pneumatic Rod

  • Place the chair frame base (five-star foot) upside down on a flat, soft surface (such as a carpet) to avoid scratching the surface with hard objects.
  • Take out the pneumatic rod and identify the structures at both ends: The end with a rubber pad or the thinner end is the top (for connecting to the seat cushion), and the thicker end or the end with a buckle is the bottom (for inserting into the base).
  • Align the bottom end of the pneumatic rod vertically with the central hole of the base and press down evenly until you hear a 'click' sound or feel the buckle lock, ensuring the installation is vertical without any tilt. For some models, you need to insert the thicker end into the central hole of the five-star foot, and you should also hear a locking sound.
  • Note: If the base requires the installation of wheels first, insert the universal wheels into the wheel holes of the five-star foot/base in advance (some may need to be fixed by rotating the threads) before connecting the pneumatic rod.

2. Combining the Seat Cushion and the Pneumatic Rod

  • Turn the assembled seat cushion unit (including the backrest) upside down, align the mounting slot at the bottom of the seat cushion with the top end of the pneumatic rod, slowly slide it in and confirm full contact, and then place the chair upright.
  • Alternatively, use the vertical sitting pressure method: Simply sit on the seat cushion and use your body weight to make the buckle at the top end of the pneumatic rod automatically snap into the mounting slot at the bottom of the seat cushion (suitable for some quick-installation designs).
  • Key Point: If the seat cushion and the backrest are separate, first fix the two symmetrically with screws (to avoid loosening due to uneven force) before connecting them to the pneumatic rod.

3. Function Debugging and Detail Refinement

  • Height Adjustment Test: When sitting for a test, keep your body steady and slowly press the height adjustment handle to check if the pneumatic rod moves up and down smoothly. If the insertion is too tight, apply a small amount of lubricating grease (such as silicone grease) to the top end of the pneumatic rod to reduce friction.
  • Armrest Installation: Install the armrests after the seat cushion is fixed. Pay attention to aligning the direction indicators or adjustment holes to ensure a firm connection between the armrests and the seat cushion.
  • Safety Inspection: Confirm that all screws are tightened and the buckles are locked to prevent parts from falling off during use. It is strictly prohibited to strike or apply lateral force to the pneumatic rod to prevent damage to the internal seals, which could lead to pneumatic failure or explosion risks.

Additional Instructions

  • The assembly process should strictly follow the product instruction manual, as different models may have differences in details (such as buckle types and screw specifications).
  • If the pneumatic rod cannot be locked or the height adjustment is abnormal, stop using it immediately and contact after-sales service. Do not disassemble or repair it yourself.
