Office Chair Air

Admin October 08, 2026

The concept of 'air' related to office chairs mainly involves two categories: the application of the Air Chair and Air Thread (Air Fiber) in office chairs.

Air Chair (Chairless Chair)
The Air Chair is a wearable support device developed by the Swiss company Noonee. Its core design concept is to simulate the function of a seat through mechanical structures. Made of aluminum and carbon fiber, the device weighs approximately 2 kilograms and is attached to the lower body of the user with straps. When the user bends their knees to a specific angle (about 120 degrees), the built-in mechanical locking system automatically triggers, securing the support frame to form a stable seating structure, providing support similar to a sitting posture while standing. Its improved version, Chairless Chair 2.0, offers significant performance enhancements: a weight reduction of over 25%, an expanded height range suitable for users from 1.50 meters to 1.95 meters, and improved motion flexibility; the built-in rechargeable battery supports 8 hours of operation, meeting the needs of prolonged use. This device is suitable for scenarios requiring frequent switching between standing and sitting postures, such as surgeons in operating rooms, outdoor photographers, or production line workers. It reduces muscle fatigue by minimizing static standing time while avoiding the spatial constraints of traditional seats.

Application of Air Thread (Air Fiber) in Office Chairs
Air Thread is a three-dimensional mesh material made by melting and extruding polyolefin elastomer (POE), thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPEE), or polyethylene (PE) through a high-temperature melting and spinning process. Approximately 95% of its structure is air, with only 5% being solid material. This design endows it with unique physical properties:

  1. Breathability: The mesh structure allows air to circulate freely, effectively reducing the stuffy feeling during prolonged sitting, especially suitable for summer or high-temperature environments.
  2. Support: The material can achieve differentiated support through density adjustment, providing stronger support in areas such as the buttocks and waist to disperse body pressure and reduce lumbar spine stress.
  3. Hygiene: Air Thread is washable and mold-resistant, with no added formaldehyde, meeting environmental standards and suitable for users with high health requirements.
  4. Durability: The properties of polymer materials make it highly resistant to deformation, ensuring it does not collapse easily over long-term use and extending the lifespan of office chairs.
Currently, Air Thread is primarily used in the seat cushions and backrests of office chairs, enhancing comfort and functionality through modular design.
