Office Chair Adjustment to Recline

Admin October 19, 2026

The methods for adjusting an office chair to recline vary depending on the type of chair. Here are the specific operations:

Standard Office Chairs

The adjustment mechanism of standard office chairs is relatively simple, mainly controlled by a button beneath the seat to lock and unlock the chair. When the button is pushed in, the chair is locked, allowing only vertical adjustment of the seat height without changing the recline angle; pulling the button out unlocks the chair, enabling adjustments. Users can adjust the seat to a comfortable recline angle as needed and then push the button back in to lock the current angle. Be mindful of the force applied during operation to avoid damaging the button.

Ergonomic Chairs

Ergonomic chairs offer more extensive adjustment features, typically including multiple parts such as the backrest, headrest, lumbar support, and armrests:

  • Backrest Angle: The adjustment handle is usually located on the right or left side beneath the seat. The recline angle can be locked by pulling the handle or turning the knob. For a lunch break, it is recommended to recline the backrest to 120ยฐโ€“135ยฐ. To do this, locate the adjustment handle beneath the seat, pull the handle while gently leaning back, and release the handle to lock the angle. If the angle cannot be fixed, check whether the handle is fully reset or the knob is tightened.
  • Headrest: Supports vertical lifting and forward/backward rotation. Before adjusting, sit up straight and look forward, then slowly move the headrest to a position where the back of the head gently touches it and the neck is naturally relaxed. The standard adjustment requires the soft middle part of the headrest to be parallel to the top edge of the ears, with the distance between the back of the head and the headrest not exceeding 4 centimeters; for lunch break scenarios, it is recommended to raise the headrest by an additional 1โ€“2 centimeters from the base height for more comfortable support.
  • Lumbar Support: Supports vertical lifting and forward/backward depth adjustment. Vertically, it should match the user's height so that the lumbar support is positioned at the natural curve of the lumbar spine; depth-wise, adjust the support intensity to avoid being too high or too soft. If there is a gap between the lower back and the backrest when sitting, it indicates that the lumbar support is too low or lacks sufficient depth; if it feels like being hard-pressed, the lumbar support is too prominent or positioned too high.
  • Armrests: Can be raised or lowered, or flipped, with some supporting left/right rotation. High-end models like the Qingxian Dynamic Ergonomic Chair feature armrests with slide rails that move synchronously with the user's recline and are adjusted by a button-controlled motor; this model uses a 2200 mAh detachable battery that supports 15-watt fast charging.

Some High-End Models

Some high-end models, such as the Bajiujian C6, can recline to a full 180ยฐ. They have a backrest height of 770mm, a seat depth of 500mm, and a maximum weight capacity of 300 kilograms. To adjust, gradually recline the backrest using the control panel or buttons on the side of the seat until it reaches the fully reclined position. Before use, confirm the chair's weight capacity to avoid structural damage from overloading.
