Adjusting Office Chair to the Lowest Height

Admin October 11, 2026

The methods for adjusting an office chair to its lowest height vary depending on the type of adjustment mechanism, with common approaches as follows:

Pneumatic Adjustment Type: This is the most common adjustment method on the market, typically found in regular office chairs. To operate, first sit steadily on the chair and locate the height adjustment handle on the right side beneath the seat (usually a long lever). Grasp and gently lift the handle upwards to release the lock on the pneumatic rod. At this point, slightly lift your body, keep the handle lifted, and rely on your body weight to slowly sink down, with the chair descending accordingly. When reaching the desired height (where your feet can fully rest flat on the ground), release the handle to lock it in place. For some chairs, you may need to first lift the black plastic component on the adjustment rod to unlock it, and then grasp the adjustment rod and press it down slowly. Pay attention to applying moderate force during operation to avoid damaging the pneumatic rod or losing balance due to excessive force.

Mechanical Adjustment Type (Screw/Rotary): This is often seen in older models or some high-end ergonomic chairs. If the chair uses screw-type adjustment, locate the adjustment knob at the center or side of the chair base. To lower the height, you usually need to rotate the knob clockwise (following the principle of 'tighten right, loosen left', but mostly clockwise for lowering). For older chairs with fixed screws, first use a tool (such as a wrench) to loosen the screw counterclockwise. While rotating the knob or loosening the screw, manually press the seat down to the desired height. After adjustment, for models with screw fixation, be sure to tighten the screw clockwise again to secure it, preventing the seat from accidentally sinking during use.

Electric Adjustment Type: Some high-end ergonomic chairs or executive chairs are equipped with electric adjustment functions, making operation the simplest. Just find the button marked with an up-down icon on the control panel on the armrest or base of the seat, and press it to automatically lower the chair. Such chairs usually have built-in motors and sensors that can precisely control the height, and the adjustment process is smooth and noiseless. However, note that electric adjustment chairs require regular inspection of the power cord and motor status to avoid adjustment failure due to circuit faults.

The adjustment methods for office chairs may vary slightly depending on the brand and model. It is advisable to consult the product manual or after-sales personnel before adjustment. Always operate steadily to avoid damaging the chair or causing personal injury due to excessive force or improper operation.
