Office Chair Adjustment Operation

Admin October 10, 2026

The adjustment operations of an office chair should be set scientifically according to ergonomic principles to ensure comfort and health. Here are the specific adjustment methods:

1. Seat Height Adjustment The seat height is a core parameter affecting sitting posture. To adjust it, locate the hand control device (such as a lever or knob) beneath or on the side of the seat. Raise the control lever or turn the knob to raise or lower the seat. Some pneumatic chairs can be adjusted by repeatedly pushing the lever up and down. Key Criteria: After adjustment, ensure that both feet are flat on the ground, with the thighs and lower legs forming a 95ยฐ-100ยฐ angle. If adjusting while standing, the front of the chair should be just below the knees. Special Case Handling: If the chair is too high and causes the feet to hang in the air, use a footrest for additional support. If the chair is too low, the pressure on the knee joints will increase significantly, requiring the seat to be raised or a height-adjustable desk to be used instead.

2. Sitting Posture Angle Adjustment The correct sitting posture angle can reduce spinal pressure. It is recommended to slightly recline the backrest to 100ยฐ-110ยฐ, allowing the back, especially the lower back, to fit snugly against the backrest. If the chair is equipped with a lumbar support, adjust it to support the natural curve of the lumbar spine (usually located at the 3rd to 5th lumbar vertebrae) to avoid a gap in the lower back. Precautions: The recline angle should not be too large, as it may increase the burden on the neck. When maintaining a fixed angle for a long time, it is recommended to slightly adjust the sitting posture (such as briefly leaning forward or sideways) every 15-30 minutes to distribute body pressure.

3. Armrest Height Adjustment The height of the armrests directly affects the comfort of the shoulders, neck, and arms. When adjusting, ensure that the elbows hang naturally, with the forearms resting flat on the armrests or desk, and the upper arms and forearms forming an angle close to 100ยฐ. Special Scenario Handling: If arm support is not required (such as when drawing or operating a keyboard), the height of the armrests can be lowered or removed directly to prevent the armrests from being too high and obstructing the knees from moving under the desk. If the armrests can slide back and forth, ensure they are aligned with the edge of the desk to reduce the distance the arms hang in the air.

4. Monitor Height Adjustment The height of the monitor is closely related to neck health. It is recommended to elevate the monitor using a stand or books so that the line of sight is level with the top edge of the screen, avoiding looking down or up. Scientific Basis: Leaning forward increases neck pressure by 3-5 times, which may lead to cervical spine deformation over time. If using dual screens, ensure that the main screen is directly in front and the secondary screen forms a 30ยฐ-45ยฐ angle with the main screen to reduce head movement.

5. Other Adjustment Functions

  • Headrest Adjustment: The headrest of a dynamic ergonomic chair usually supports height adjustment by lifting, and some models can move back and forth. When adjusting, ensure that the middle of the headrest supports the back of the head, with no more than a two-finger gap between the neck and the headrest.
  • Dynamic Sitting Posture: Change your sitting posture every 15-30 minutes (such as alternating between leaning forward, reclining, or leaning sideways), or promote blood circulation by slightly shifting your body weight (such as swaying your hips left and right) to reduce the risks associated with prolonged sitting.
