Office Chair Adjustment Issues

Admin October 22, 2026

Issues with adjusting an office chair may involve problems with both height and recline adjustments, requiring troubleshooting based on specific symptoms for targeted solutions.

Height Adjustment Failures and Solutions

Common Causes:

  1. Gas Cylinder Issues: The gas cylinder, a core component controlling elevation, may cause the chair to be unable to adjust if it leaks gas, has a failed seal, or has a stuck internal piston.
  2. Locking Mechanism Failure: Some chairs feature a height-locking mechanism; if the locking catch deforms or the spring fails, it may jam the lifting mechanism.
  3. Dirt Blockage: Over time, dust and debris may accumulate at the connection between the gas cylinder and the base, obstructing mechanical movement.
  4. Design Flaws: A few chairs may have structuralไธๅˆ็† (unreasonable) designs, such as an excessively small gap between the gas cylinder and the base, resulting in excessive friction.

Solutions:

  1. Inspect the Gas Cylinder: Look for oil stains (signs of gas leakage) or dents on the surface of the gas cylinder; if damaged, contact the manufacturer for replacement.
  2. Unlock the Mechanism: Try pressing the lift switch multiple times while gently tapping the edge of the base to help the catch reset.
  3. Clean Components: Use a vacuum cleaner to clear debris from the base็ผ้š™ or wipe the surface of the gas cylinder with a dry cloth to prevent liquid infiltration.
  4. Apply Moderate Force: When adjusting the height, shift your body weight slightly backward and apply even pressure downward or upward to avoid violent operation.

Recline Adjustment Failures and Solutions

Common Causes:

  1. Operational Errors: Reclining without fully extending the control lever may cause the locking tongue to become stuck in the fixed hole; or misalignment of the hole when pushing the control lever back.
  2. Foreign Object Obstruction: Data cables or clothing fibers may become entangled around the backrest pivot, or small particles may enter the gaps in the chassis.
  3. Mechanical Damage: Failure of the hydraulic rod, breakage of the locking tongue, fatigue fracture of the spring, deformation of the control dial, etc.

Solutions:

  1. Clear the Environment: Move the chair to an open area and inspect the bottom of the backrest and the connection between the seat and the chassis to remove visible foreign objects.
  2. Operate the Control Lever Correctly:
    • Locate the metal control lever beneath the seat, fully extend it, and hold for 2-3 seconds; the backrest should automatically rebound.
    • After the backrest is upright, slowly push the control lever back into the locking hole, avoiding excessive force that may cause misalignment.
  3. Manually Assist Resetting: If the backrest does not rebound, keep the control lever extended and gently push the backrest to an upright position with your hand while checking the spring tension (replace if the spring is loose).
  4. Professional Repair: If internal damage such as hydraulic rod oil leakage or lock block breakage is involved, contact after-sales service or a repair technician to replace the components.

Tip: Avoid placing heavy objects on the seat during adjustment and regularly clean dust from the bottom of the chair to extend its lifespan. If the issue persists, it is advisable to contact the manufacturer first for technical support.
