Office Chair Adjustment Guide

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair adjustment should be carried out step by step according to ergonomic principles, adjusting key parameters such as seat height, sitting posture angle, and armrest height, while selecting an appropriate recline adjustment method based on the type of chair.

I. Basic Adjustment Steps

  1. Seat Height Adjustment

    • Adjust the seat height so that your feet are completely flat on the ground, with your thighs and lower legs forming an angle of 95ยฐ-100ยฐ, or your thighs being roughly parallel to the ground. If the chair is too high and your feet are left hanging, use a footrest; if it is too low, it will increase the pressure on your knees.
    • While maintaining a sitting position, control the height using the gas lift under the seat and repeatedly adjust it to the optimal position.
  2. Sitting Posture Angle Adjustment

    • Lean back slightly so that the backrest forms an angle of 100ยฐ-110ยฐ with the vertical direction, ensuring that your back, especially your lower back, fits snugly against the backrest.
    • If the chair is equipped with a lumbar support, adjust it to the position that supports the natural curve of your lumbar spine (around the third to fourth lumbar vertebrae), avoiding a hollow lower back or excessive forward protrusion.
  3. Armrest Height Adjustment

    • Adjust the height of the armrests so that when your elbows hang naturally, your forearms can rest easily on the armrests or the desktop, with the angle between your upper and lower arms close to 100ยฐ and your elbows at a right angle.
    • Armrests that are too high will cause shoulder tension, while those that are too low may lead to arm fatigue from hanging.
  4. Monitor Height Adjustment

    • Elevate the monitor so that your line of sight is level with the top edge of the screen, avoiding neck strain from looking down or leaning forward.
    • You can use a monitor stand or books to elevate it, ensuring that the center of the screen is at eye level.

II. Recline Adjustment Methods (Operation by Type)

  1. Lever Adjustment System

    • Locate the adjustment lever on the right or left side under the seat and release the recline lock (if applicable).
    • Lean back with your body, simultaneously adjust the lever to a comfortable angle, and lock the position (by pulling up or pushing down the lever).
  2. Knob Adjustment System

    • Locate the knob in the center of the lower part of the seat, turn it clockwise to increase the recline resistance and counterclockwise to decrease it.
    • Some chairs have a separate recline angle knob, which should be adjusted according to the instructions.
  3. Pneumatic Adjustment System

    • The pneumatic lever is usually integrated with the height adjustment lever, and the recline angle is adjusted by pushing it in different directions.
    • Gently pull the lever and lean back with your body until you reach a comfortable angle, then release the lock.

III. Recline Angle Selection and Precautions

  • Work Scenarios: Choose a smaller recline angle (close to vertical) when focusing and a larger angle (around 110ยฐ) when relaxing.
  • Safety Tips: When adjusting the recline, ensure that the center of gravity of the chair is not too far back to prevent tipping over; avoid staying in the same angle for a long time and move your body regularly.
  • Health Impact: An improper recline angle may lead to uneven distribution of lumbar spine pressure, causing fatigue or injury, and should be adjusted dynamically according to body shape and comfort level.
