Office Chair Adjustment Explanation

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair adjustment should be carried out scientifically according to the needs of different body parts to enhance comfort and reduce the harm caused by prolonged sitting. The specific methods are as follows:

1. Adjusting the Seat Height

  • Operation Method: Look for the hand control device (such as a lever or knob) at the bottom or side of the seat. Pull it up or turn it to adjust the height. For a pneumatic lift chair, fine-tuning can be achieved by repeatedly pumping the lever, and the lever should be returned to its original position after adjustment. If unsure about the operation, refer to the user manual.
  • Comfort Standard: Adjust until both feet are flat on the ground, with the thighs and lower legs forming an angle of 95ยฐ-100ยฐ. If the chair is too high and the feet are suspended in the air, use a footrest; if it is too low and puts pressure on the knee joints, raise the seat.
  • Special Scenarios: When adjusting while standing, ensure that the front of the chair is below the knees; after sitting down, confirm again whether the angle between the feet and legs meets the standard.

2. Adjusting the Backrest

  • Lumbar Pillow Positioning: Adjust the lumbar pillow to support the sacrum (the pelvic area below the waist) to avoid the waist being suspended in the air.
  • Reclining Angle: Maintain a slightly reclined sitting posture (100ยฐ-110ยฐ) to make the back fit against the backrest. If there is a lumbar support, align it with the natural curve point of the lumbar spine (approximately the third to fifth lumbar vertebrae) to enhance the support effect.

3. Adjusting the Headrest

  • Height and Front-Back Adjustment: Taking the Qingxian Dynamic Ergonomic Chair as an example, lifting the headrest can adjust its height; some models support sliding forward and backward. Adjust according to the length of the neck to ensure that the cervical spine is supported when the head is tilted back.

4. Adjusting the Armrests

  • Height Matching: Adjust the armrests until, when the elbows hang naturally, the forearms can be easily placed on the armrests or the desktop, with the upper arms and forearms forming an angle of about 100ยฐ. If the armrests are too high, it will cause shoulder tension; if they are too low, they may compress the nerves in the elbows.
  • Flexible Handling: When the armrests are not needed, they can be lowered or removed to avoid obstructing the knee movement space.

5. Other Adjustments and Precautions

  • Eye-Level View: When operating a computer, ensure that the eyes are level with the top of the monitor. If the monitor height is fixed, adjust the seat height to adapt and avoid looking down or up.
  • Elbow Height: In a working state, the elbows should be at the same height as the desktop to reduce shoulder pressure.
  • Dynamic Rest: Change the sitting posture (such as leaning forward, backward, or sideways) every 15-30 minutes, or use a footrest to relieve leg pressure.
  • Simple Exercises: Every 30 minutes of prolonged sitting, perform hip joint stretching, lower back relaxation, and other movements to promote blood circulation and reduce the risk of muscle fatigue.
