Office Chair Adjustment Downward

Admin October 09, 2026

The methods for adjusting office chairs downward vary depending on the type, as detailed below:

Pneumatic office chairs: These are the most common type on the market. Typically, there are one or two control levers located beneath the seat. When seated on the office chair, pressing the lever downward will lower the seat. This occurs because pressing the lever compresses the gas inside the gas cylinder, causing the seat to descend. If the chair is unoccupied, pulling the lever upward will cause the high-pressure gas inside the cylinder to rebound, raising the seat. There is also a type of inflatable pneumatic office chair. To lower the height, locate the knob on the gas cylinder and rotate it clockwise. The principle is to adjust the height of the seat by changing the pressure distribution of the gas inside the cylinder through rotation.

Screw-type office chairs: The adjustment method for this type of office chair is relatively simple and straightforward. There is a knob beneath the chair. Rotating the knob clockwise will lower the chair, while rotating it counterclockwise will raise it. The principle is similar to that of a screw jack, where rotating the knob changes the position of the screw structure, thereby altering the height of the seat.

Old-fashioned manually adjustable office chairs: There is a fixed screw beneath the backrest. A tool is required to loosen the screw, allowing the seat to move up and down. After adjusting it to the desired height, tighten the screw to secure it. This adjustment method is relatively cumbersome but features a simple structure and good stability.

General operating methods: Some office chairs have relatively universal adjustment methods. Locate the handle on the support rod of the office chair. While seated on the chair or pressing down firmly on it with your hands, lift the located handle to lower the chair. Some chairs require pulling up the corresponding control lever to adjust the height, while certain models involve rotating a knob. If unsure about the adjustment method for a particular chair, refer to the user manual or try each lever one by one, but be mindful of the operating force to avoid damaging the chair.
