Office Chair Adjustment Device
Admin October 12, 2026
Office chair adjustment devices vary in working principles and adjustment methods depending on their types.

Height Adjustment Devices
- Pneumatic Type: The core component is a pneumatic rod (gas spring), filled with high-pressure nitrogen (usually with a purity requirement of over 90%). It uses a piston to separate the upper and lower gas chambers, utilizing the pressure difference created by the different cross-sectional areas on both sides of the piston to achieve height adjustment. When a person sits on the chair and applies pressure, the lifting shaft descends smoothly; when the external force is removed, the lifting shaft rises under the pressure of the nitrogen. With the help of a release mechanism, the pneumatic rod can stop at any position within its stroke and maintain a strong locking force. When adjusting, if already seated on the chair, the height can be adjusted by pulling up the corresponding control lever; some models require turning a knob or pumping a lever (repeatedly pushing up and down to raise or lower the seat); if adjustment cannot be made properly while seated, try adjusting from a standing position, placing the front of the chair just below the knees.
- Hydraulic Type: It operates based on the principle of a hydraulic jack, driven by human power to operate a hydraulic pump, which transmits force through a hydraulic system to achieve lifting. This adjustment method is relatively traditional and requires the user to manually operate the hydraulic pump to adjust the chair's height.
- Electric Type: It uses an electric linear actuator (linear drive) as the lifting device, mainly composed of a motor, a push rod, and a control unit. It allows for remote control and can move up and down within a certain stroke, making operation more convenient and intelligent.
- Screw Type: The basic principle is to achieve chair position locking through the self-locking of a screw pair. By rotating the screw component, the chair can reach the desired height and remain stable.
- Fixed-Position Type: It achieves height adjustment at predetermined positions by using screws to firmly connect the chair legs and the seat. This adjustment method is relatively fixed and can only be adjusted at a few preset positions.
Other Adjustment Devices
Some office chairs also have headrest adjustment devices. For example, the Qingxian Dynamic Ergonomic Chair allows the headrest height to be adjusted by pulling it up, and there are also corresponding adjustment methods for adjusting it forward and backward to meet the needs of different users for headrest position. Some chairs also have adjustable armrest heights. If arm support is not required, the armrests can be removed or lowered, increasing the chair's flexibility and comfort in use.
