Office Chair Adjustment and Repair

Admin October 10, 2026

Office chair adjustment and repair require targeted measures based on specific issues. Common faults and solutions are as follows:

1. Office chair tilting to one side This issue is usually caused by damaged or poorly connected wheels. First, place the chair upright and upside down to observe whether all the wheel feet are in contact with the ground. Check for any cracks, deformations, or signs of wear on the wheels. If damaged wheels are found, purchase new wheels that match the specifications of the original ones (pay attention to the wheel diameter, width, and clip type). When replacing, remove the old casters first, spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) into the chair base sockets, and use a rubber mallet to vertically hammer the new wheels into the sockets, ensuring the clips are fully embedded. After installation, test the chair's stability. If it still tilts, further check whether the seat plate is cracked or deformed, and replace it if necessary.

2. Sinking office chair Cylinder failure is the main cause of a sinking chair, which can be addressed through temporary fixation or physical restriction.

  • Hose clamp method: Slide down the plastic skirt at the bottom of the chair, adjust the chair to the desired height, and wrap a metal hose clamp (with an adjusting screw) around the cylinder. Increase friction by wrapping rubber bands or sanding the cylinder surface, then tighten the clamp and test the fixation effect.
  • PVC pipe method: Measure the diameter and length of the cylinder, select a PVC pipe with an inner diameter slightly smaller than the cylinder, saw the pipe lengthwise, and fit it tightly over the cylinder, using the pipe's elasticity to prevent slippage. This method is suitable for emergency repairs but requires regular checks for pipe looseness.

3. Backrest unable to stay upright or adjust This problem often stems from hydraulic system or transmission component failures. First, look down to check whether the hydraulic rod at the bottom of the chair is leaking oil or loose. If the hydraulic system is normal, lay the chair on its side and inspect the transmission toggle and connecting rod from beneath the backrest. If the toggle functions properly but the hydraulic rod cannot be fixed, it may be due to a missing or non-standard screw causing a fit issue. In this case, replace it with a standard screw (the length should match the original screw) and add a washer (such as a rubber washer) between the screw and the hydraulic rod to prevent the screw from being too long and obstructing the rod's movement. After installation, repeatedly adjust the backrest to ensure there is no jamming or slippage.

Repair precautions: Turn off the chair's pneumatic adjustment function (if available) before operation to avoid sudden popping up. Wear protective gloves when using tools to prevent cuts. If the problem involves internal cylinder damage (such as air leakage), it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician to replace the cylinder rather than attempting to disassemble it yourself.
