Office Chair Adjustable Front and Back

Admin October 09, 2026

The design of office chairs that can be adjusted front and back is mainly achieved through the adjustment of lumbar supports, seat cushions, or backrests. Different models use different technologies, with adjustment methods including pneumatic rods, knobs, or lever controls. Here are the specific details:

1. Front-to-Back Adjustment of Lumbar Supports
Some office chairs (such as the Heibai Diao E3Pro and E3Air 4th generation) support independent front-to-back adjustment of the lumbar support. For example, the E3Pro uses a three-zone lumbar support design, providing dynamic front-to-back support through an adaptive lumbar tracking system, allowing users to adjust the prominence of the lumbar support according to the position of their waist; the lumbar support of the E3Air 4th generation moves directly forward and backward through a mechanical structure, and in combination with the seat depth adjustment function, it can accommodate the lumbar support needs of users with different body types.

2. Front-to-Back Sliding Adjustment of Seat Cushions
High-end models (such as the E3Air 4th generation) are equipped with a seat cushion sliding function, controlled by a lever beneath the seat cushion to adjust its front-to-back position. To adjust, first unlock the lever, slide the seat cushion until there is a 2-3 finger gap (approximately 2-3 centimeters) between the back of the knee and the front edge of the seat cushion, and then lock the lever. This design prevents impaired blood circulation in the legs during prolonged sitting and optimizes the distance between the sitting posture and the desktop.

3. Front-to-Back Tilt Adjustment of Backrests
The tilt adjustment of the backrest is usually linked to the recline function and is common in reclining office chairs. There are three types of adjustment methods:

  • Pneumatic Rod Adjustment: Operated by a control lever beneath the chair. Pull the lever upward and lean back to recline the backrest with pressure; pull it downward and lean forward to return the backrest to an upright position. This design is common in basic models, offering simple operation but with fixed angles.
  • Knob Adjustment: A knob is placed on the side or bottom of the backrest. Rotate it counterclockwise to unlock, manually adjust the backrest angle to a comfortable position, and then rotate it clockwise to lock. This method offers high precision but requires coordination with both hands.
  • Lever Adjustment: Switch gears using a side lever, with each gear corresponding to a fixed tilt angle (such as 90ยฐ, 105ยฐ, 120ยฐ). Users can switch by pulling the lever, suitable for scenarios requiring quick adjustments.

4. Adjustment Precautions

  • Reset all devices before adjustment (such as returning the backrest to an upright position and the armrests to their original positions) to avoid interference between components;
  • Gradually adjust parameters (height, angle, armrest height, etc.) to ensure coordination among all parts;
  • Test the locking firmness to prevent accidental movement during use;
  • When adjusting the sliding of the seat cushion, maintain a stable center of gravity to avoid imbalance due to improper positioning.

Different models may combine adjustment functions. For example, the E3Air 4th generation supports simultaneous adjustment of the lumbar support front and back, seat cushion sliding, and backrest recline, allowing users to choose a model that suits their needs.
