Office Chair Adjustable Base

Admin October 13, 2026

The adjustable base of an office chair primarily involves height adjustment and wheel locking functions, and must be installed according to standard procedures to ensure stability.

Height Adjustment Methods

The height adjustment of an office chair base is mainly achieved through a lifting rod, with specific methods varying by chassis type:

  • Conventional Chassis: Adjusted via a manual lever, requiring a certain amount of force to push or pull the lever. Ensure the chair remains stable during operation to prevent tipping due to uneven force. After adjustment, confirm that the locking mechanism is engaged to secure the seat height.
  • Wire-Controlled Chassis: Utilizes an electronic wire-control system, controlling the extension and retraction of the pneumatic cylinder via buttons or a remote control. Simply touch the buttons to complete the lifting, suitable for scenarios requiring frequent height adjustments, such as multitasking office environments.
  • Air Rod Adjustment: Some chairs have one or two handles beneath the seat. Lifting the handle compresses the high-pressure gas inside the air rod, raising the seat; turning the handle upward and keeping it lifted prevents gas rebound, lowering the seat. This method requires coordination with sitting posture to avoid air rod failure due to improper operation.
  • Screw-Fixed Type: The swivel chair base has fixed screws; loosening the screws allows manual adjustment of the base height, which can be readjusted and the screws retightened after reaching the desired position. This method is suitable for scenarios requiring precise height control but with lower adjustment frequency.
  • Dual Adjustment Lever Design: Some seats are equipped with two independent adjustment levers below, controlling the up-down and left-right directions separately. Adjust by sitting on the chair, lifting the corresponding handle to the target height, and then releasing it, utilizing the self-locking function of the pneumatic rod to fix the position.

Wheel Locking Function

The wheels of an office chair base are usually equipped with locking devices to enhance usage stability:

  • Press-Type Locking: Achieved by pressing the locking button at the center of the wheel for fixation, and pressing again to unlock. This method is simple to operate and suitable for scenarios requiring temporary fixation, such as preventing chair sliding during writing or typing.
  • Toggle-Type Locking: Features a toggle switch on the side of the wheel bracket; toggling it up or down switches between locked/unlocked states. This method is suitable for scenarios requiring frequent movement and fixation, such as meetings or collaborative work.

Installation Precautions

The base installation must follow standard procedures: invert the base onto a fixed frame, install the casters, and secure them with a pneumatic press. Then, sequentially install the pneumatic cylinder, tilt mechanism, and reinforce the connection points with a machine. After installation, check that all components are secure to avoid usage risks due to looseness.
