Office Chair Accident Education

Admin October 10, 2026

Office chair accident education should focus on the potential risks and preventive measures of pneumatic lifting chairs to avoid serious injuries caused by inferior components or improper use.

Pneumatic lifting chair explosion accidents have occurred frequently in recent years, with the core risk stemming from design flaws in inferior pneumatic rods. For example, Ms. Liu in Xiamen suffered from parts being shot into her body from her buttocks due to an explosion of her lifting chair; a woman in Fujian suffered from rectal tearing and vaginal perforation due to an explosion of a pneumatic rod; a 14-year-old boy in Jiaozhou, Shandong, was pierced in the body by a top rod while adjusting a pneumatic chair and died. The direct causes of such accidents include: the wall of the pneumatic rod being too thin to withstand internal high pressure; insufficient purity of the inert gas or replacement with compressed air, leading to unstable gas; and the lack of an explosion-proof steel plate, which fails to buffer the impact of the explosion. These flaws may be triggered in environments with frequent lifting or high temperatures, causing violent explosions.

Preventive measures should be taken from four aspects: selection, inspection, design, and use:
1. Select genuine products: Give priority to genuine products that clearly indicate manufacturer information, have quality certificates, and registered trademarks, and avoid purchasing unbranded products. A genuine pneumatic rod should be made of steel, filled with high-purity inert gas (such as nitrogen) and sealed inside, and have a national verification mark (such as a 3C certification) printed on its surface. Such products have undergone strict quality inspections and can significantly reduce the risk of explosion.

2. Inspect the quality of the pneumatic rod: Test whether the lifting and lowering of the seat are smooth when adjusting it. If there is stuttering, abnormal noise, or uneven lifting and lowering, it may indicate a defect in the pneumatic rod. At the same time, give priority to products priced above 200 yuan, as low-priced products often use inferior materials to cut costs, resulting in significantly higher safety hazards.

3. Confirm explosion-proof design: Check whether an explosion-proof steel plate with a thickness of โ‰ฅ2 millimeters is installed between the seat cushion and the pneumatic rod. This steel plate can block fragment splashing in the event of a pneumatic rod explosion, protecting the user's vital parts from direct impact.

4. Avoid improper use: Reduce frequent lifting and lowering operations to prevent metal fatigue inside the pneumatic rod; avoid placing the chair in high-temperature environments (such as direct sunlight or near heating appliances) for a long time to prevent gas expansion and a sudden increase in pressure.

In addition, offices should strengthen risk awareness, regularly inspect the appearance of the pneumatic rod for deformation or air leakage, and promptly replace aging or damaged components to avoid ignoring hidden dangers due to inertia or saving trouble.
