Nuts Under Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

The nuts under an office chair vary in function and operation depending on their type, mainly divided into two categories: the large nut under a lifting chair and the nut for the office chair seat cushion.

The Large Nut Under a Lifting Chair

  • Function: It serves as a crucial fastener connecting the gas lift rod to the base or seat of the chair. By utilizing the frictional force between the threads, it achieves self-locking and firmly secures the gas lift rod between the load-bearing structures of the chair. Its tightening state directly affects the smoothness of the chair's lifting, the stability of the overall structure, and the safety of long-term use.
  • Installation and Initial Tightening: The standard sequence is to first install the casters into the five-star base, then vertically place the gas lift rod (with the thick end facing down) into the center hole of the five-star base for preliminary fixation. Next, attach the base to the seat using screws. Finally, align the seat (along with the base) vertically with the upper end of the gas lift rod and insert it, and then use the large nut from the bottom of the chair for final tightening. When tightening, use an appropriate wrench and apply even force in a clockwise direction until the nut feels completely locked, ensuring a firm and wobble-free connection.
  • Regular Inspection and Anti-loosening Tightening: During daily use, regularly check if the large nut is loose. When inspecting, try to gently rotate the nut in the reverse (counterclockwise) direction with your hand or a tool. If it can rotate, it means it has loosened, and you should immediately tighten it again in a clockwise direction. Conducting this inspection regularly (e.g., once every quarter) can effectively prevent structural instability caused by loosening.
  • Relationship with Height Adjustment: Adjusting the height of the chair is usually achieved by operating the lifting lever or knob on the side of the seat, rather than turning the large nut at the bottom. For a pneumatic lifting chair, its lifting function relies on the pressure difference of the high-pressure nitrogen gas inside the gas lift rod.

The Nut for the Office Chair Seat Cushion

  • Installation Steps: Prepare an appropriate wrench and accurately locate the position of the nut for installing the seat cushion, usually at the connection point between the bottom of the seat and the cushion. Pass the nut through the hole at the bottom of the seat so that it is positioned between the cushion and the seat frame. Pay attention to the direction of the nut during insertion. Use a wrench or other tools to tighten the nut, applying even force and gradually tightening it in a clockwise direction. Do not apply excessive force at once to prevent damage to the nut or deformation of the seat components. Tighten it until the cushion is stable and does not wobble.
