Novah Office Chair Disassembly
Admin October 16, 2026
The disassembly of a Novah office chair can be carried out with reference to the following steps:

I. Tool Preparation Prepare tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, rubber mallets, WD - 40 lubricant (optional), rust remover (for rusted screws), and old towels (to protect the floor) in advance.
II. Seat Disassembly
- Turn the chair over so that the seat faces down and place it on the ground, ensuring a stable working space.
- Use a wrench or screwdriver to remove the screws at the connection between the base and the seat, and separate the base from the seat. If the seat and the backrest are fixed together, the backrest needs to be removed first (see below).
III. Backrest Disassembly
- Locate the connecting screws between the lower part of the backrest and the seat, and use a screwdriver to unscrew the fixing screws.
- Slowly separate the backrest from the seat to avoid damaging the components due to excessive force.
IV. Armrest Disassembly
- The armrests are usually fixed to the armrest frames with screws. Use a wrench or screwdriver to remove the screws on the armrest frames.
- When removing the armrests, handle them gently to prevent scratching the surface.
V. Gas Cylinder and Base Disassembly
- Completely turn the chair upside down and locate the connection between the gas cylinder and the base (usually fixed with snap rings or screws).
- Use a tool to loosen the snap ring or unscrew the fixing screws, and try to pull out the gas cylinder. If disassembly is difficult:
- Apply WD - 40 lubricant all over the black ring and the top seam of the gas cylinder, wait for 1 hour, and then use a rubber mallet to evenly tap around the seam.
- Or use a pipe wrench to clamp the gas cylinder and rotate it slowly to assist in disassembly.
VI. Caster Disassembly Choose the appropriate method according to the type of casters:
- Direct snap - on type: Pull outward with great force or use a screwdriver to gently pry the edge to remove it.
- Snap - ring type: Align a flat - head screwdriver with the small snap ring at the connection between the wheel and the bracket, and gently tap the handle of the screwdriver with a hammer. When you hear a 'click' sound, the wheel becomes loose. Pull it out halfway and then pull it out directly by hand.
- Screw - fixed type: Look down at the root of the wheel and use a screwdriver to rotate the small screw counter - clockwise. When the screw is loose, remove the wheel.
- Groove type: Turn the chair upside down, hold the bracket steady with one hand, and use a hammer to vertically tap the top of the wheel with the other hand. After tapping five or six times, the wheel becomes loose and can be removed. Place an old towel under the chair during disassembly to prevent scratching the floor.
Precautions
- Handle the components gently during disassembly to avoid scratching or wearing the surface of the chair.
- Pay attention to safety during operation to prevent tools from slipping or components from falling and causing injury.
- If the screws are rusted and difficult to remove, spray rust remover to assist in the operation and wait for 5 - 10 minutes before attempting to turn them again.
