Noon Break Office Chair Disassembly
Admin October 11, 2026
The following steps can be referred to for disassembling a noon-break office chair, with the core principle being to separate components from bottom to top:

I. Tool Preparation
- Basic Tools: Rubber mallet (to avoid damaging the surface with a metal hammer), Phillips screwdriver, adjustable wrench, needle-nose pliers or vise-grip pliers.
- Advanced Tools: Pipe wrench (for dealing with stuck gas cylinders), lubricating oil (such as WD-40 or cooking oil, for rusted parts), gas cylinder remover (for lift malfunctions).
- Protective Gear: Wear gloves to prevent slipping and scratches, and goggles if necessary to protect against flying parts.
II. Core Disassembly Steps
Separating the Base (Five-Star Foot) from the Gas Cylinder
- Turn the chair upside down so that the five-star foot with wheels is facing up.
- Observe the connection point between the center of the base and the gas cylinder (usually a tight plug-in structure).
- Use a rubber mallet to evenly tap along the metal base or steel ring at the connection point, avoiding single-point tapping, while using your hand or foot to assist inๆฐ (ๆฐ can be translated as 'prying' or 'leveraging' here, but in context, it's more about applying force to separate) the five-star foot, creating a combined 'tap-pry' force. Repeat the operation until separated. If the connection is too tight, spray a small amount of lubricating oil to help loosen it.
Separating the Seat Cushion (Upper Seat) from the Gas Cylinder
- Removing the Base Plate: Use a screwdriver to remove the fixing screws of the plastic or metal base plate at the bottom of the seat cushion, and take off the base plate.
- Choosing a Separation Method:
- Tapping Method: Use a rubber mallet to forcefully tap the metal base plate at the connection point between the bottom of the seat cushion and the gas cylinder. Hold the gas cylinder steady with one hand and tap with the other (or use your foot to press down on the chair for support), using the vibration to loosen the two parts.
- Shaking Method: Raise the gas cylinder to its highest position, hold the seat cushion with one hand, press the lift lever with the other hand to release the lock, and shake the seat cushion vigorously from side to side several times, using inertia to separate them.
III. Other Disassembly Methods for Reference
- For some computer chairs, you can first remove the 4 screws on the back of the seat plate, lift the fixing iron plate, use a hammer to tap down on the base plate (the part with wheels), turn it upside down, use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the snap ring in the middle of the base plate, and then lift the lift and tap the base plate to replace components.
- If the chair has a different structure, you can disassemble it in the order of 'back cushion screws โ base plate screws โ seat cushion โ gas rod โ chair wheels', choosing pliers, a wrench, or a screwdriver according to the type of nail, and keep the parts properly for subsequent installation.
Precautions: Take photos to record the structure before disassembly to avoid damaging components due to violent operations; if the gas cylinder is stuck, prioritize using a pipe wrench or a special remover instead of forcing it by tapping.
