Non-Rotating Office Chair

Admin October 10, 2026

If the wheels of your office chair are stuck and not rotating, you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue by following these steps:

  1. Check and clean debris
A common cause of wheel blockage is the entanglement of foreign objects such as paper scraps, hair, or threads around the wheels. These debris can hinder normal wheel rotation and even cause the internal bearings to seize. It is recommended to use tweezers or a small tool to clean along the wheel gaps, avoiding direct pulling with your hands to prevent debris from breaking and remaining. If the entanglement is severe, remove the wheels for thorough cleaning.

  2. Inspect the wheels for damage
If the rubber part of the wheels shows significant wear, cracks, or deformation, it can lead to poor rotation or complete blockage. You will need to purchase replacement parts that match the original wheel model (which can be found through the office chair brand's official website or the accessories section of e-commerce platforms) and replace them according to the instructions or video tutorials. Ensure proper alignment with the bearing holes during installation to avoid loose screws.

  3. Check the condition of the axle

    • Loose axle: If the screws connecting the wheels to the chair legs are loose, it can cause the wheels to shift or become unfixed. Use a screwdriver to tighten the fixing screws on the axle, ensuring the wheels are perpendicular to the chair legs and free from wobbling.
    • Rusty axle: Prolonged use or a humid environment can cause the axle to rust, increasing rotational resistance. First, spray a rust remover (such as WD-40) on the axle, wait 5-10 minutes for the rust to dissolve, then wipe it clean with a dry cloth, and finally add a small amount of lubricating oil (such as sewing machine oil) to reduce friction and prevent further rusting.
  4. Adjust the chair's position
Uneven ground (such as carpets or uneven tiles) can restrict wheel rotation. Move the chair to a smooth, flat surface (such as wooden floors or polished tiles) and test if the wheels regain flexibility. If the ground issue cannot be resolved, consider adding chair leg pads (such as hard plastic pads) to reduce friction.

  5. Lubricate the wheels
After prolonged use, the lubricating oil inside the wheel bearings may dry out or deteriorate. Use a three-in-one lubricant or silicone-based lubricant to spray the bearings and connecting parts, then rotate the wheels repeatedly 10-15 times after spraying to allow the lubricant to fully penetrate. Avoid using oily lubricants (such as motor oil) as they tend to attract dust and accelerate wear.

If you need a study chair that does not require rotation, consider an arch-shaped chair: These chairs are designed without wheels, offering strong stability and are suitable for fixed positions. Recommended models include Jingxuan Youpin (139 yuan), Naigao Computer Chair (159 yuan), Dio Arch-Shaped Chair (204 yuan), and Yongyi Arch-Shaped Chair (279 yuan), which can be selected based on your budget and comfort needs.
