Non-Rotating Office Chair Solutions
If your office chair won't rotate, try the following solutions:

Check and clear 'blockages' - wheels and foreign objects Over time, hair, threads, pet fur, or carpet fibers can become entangled in the wheel axles, causing them to jam. Tilt or lay the chair down and inspect each wheel individually, using your hands, tweezers, or the tip of scissors to remove any entangled materials. Also, check the floor condition; excessively thick or rough carpets can increase resistance, so try moving the chair to a smooth surface to test its rotation.
Check and tighten 'joints' - screws and connectors Frequent rotation or heavy loads can cause the screws in the bottom connectors to loosen. Focus on inspecting two areas: first, the connecting screws between the five-star base and the central swivel plate (located at the bottom of the plate); second, the fixing screws of the wheel mounts. Use a Phillips or Allen screwdriver to tighten each screw one by one, applying moderate force to avoid stripping the threads.
Lubricate the 'core' - swivel plate bearings The ball bearings and sliding grooves inside the swivel plate can become rusty and stuck due to dried-up grease or dust intrusion. Locate the gap between the swivel plate and the base, spray WD-40 multi-purpose lubricant into it, and rotate the chair back and forth to help the lubricant spread. Wait a few minutes, then wipe off any excess oil and test if the rotation has become smooth again.
Check the chair's shaft A lack of oil inside the shaft can cause poor rotation. Inject a small amount of sewing machine oil or other lubricating oil, and rotate the chair to allow the oil to fully penetrate the interior of the shaft, improving lubrication.
Check the gas lift If the gas lift is bent, deformed, or damaged, it can hinder rotation. Such issues require contacting a professional repair technician or replacing the gas lift with a new one. Do not attempt to disassemble it yourself, as improper handling can lead to safety hazards.
Precautions:
- Ensure the chair is stable before operating to avoid tipping over and causing injury.
- Use lubricants or oils in moderation to avoid staining the floor or clothing.
- If the problem persists, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer or a professional repair technician for further troubleshooting.
