Non-Rotating Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

A non-rotating office chair can be resolved by checking the wheels, axle, connecting components, and gas cylinder.

Firstly, inspect the wheels at the bottom of the swivel chair. The wheels are the fundamental components that enable flexible movement and rotation of the office chair. If the wheels are damaged, such as being cracked or having a broken axle, or if they are obstructed by foreign objects like small stones or hair, the office chair will not be able to rotate normally. In this case, carefully examine the condition of each wheel. If the wheels are severely worn and affect normal use, consider replacing them with new ones. If they are just blocked by foreign objects, use a tool to remove the obstructions.

Secondly, examine the axle of the swivel chair. The axle is the key part for the rotation of the office chair. After long-term use, the axle may run out of oil, resulting in poor rotation. To address this situation, you can add an appropriate amount of lubricating oil. Common sewing machine oil is a good choice. After injecting the lubricating oil into the axle, rotate the swivel chair to allow the oil to fully lubricate the interior of the axle, thereby improving the rotation. In addition, you can also apply white lithium grease (recommended viscosity grade NLGI 2) to the chassis turntable track, which can also effectively improve the problem of inflexible rotation.

Thirdly, check the connecting components. An office chair is assembled from multiple components using screws and other connecting parts. If these connecting parts are loose, it may affect the overall structural stability of the office chair and lead to abnormal rotation function. Therefore, carefully inspect each screw and other connecting parts and tighten the loose ones, such as the connections between the armrests and the seat, and between the seat and the chassis.

Finally, inspect the gas cylinder. The gas cylinder not only affects the height adjustment function of the office chair but may also have an impact on the rotation function. Observe whether the gas cylinder is bent or deformed. If there is a problem with the gas cylinder, you may need to contact a professional repair technician or replace it with a new one. Since gas cylinder problems are relatively complex, improper self-handling may pose safety hazards. At the same time, note that the gas spring itself should not be lubricated. If there is stuttering or abnormal noise during height adjustment, focus on treating the metal friction surface at the connection between the base and the gas spring.
