New City Office Chair Refurbishment

Admin October 12, 2026

The refurbishment of office chairs in New City can be carried out according to the following steps, divided into two plans: complex refurbishment and simple refurbishment. The appropriate method should be selected based on the chair's material and degree of damage:

I. Complex Refurbishment (Requiring Fabric Replacement or Painting)

  1. Removing Old Fabric and Cleaning

    • If the chair's seat fabric needs to be replaced, carefully strip off the old fabric using tailor's scissors or specialized tools, and remove any remaining nails with a nail puller.
    • If the chair frame requires treatment, first remove soft parts such as the seat cushion and backrest, and clean surface stains, dust, or old paint. Retain reusable accessories (such as screws and buckles) and mark their positions to avoid installation errors later.
  2. Frame Repair and Sanding

    • Wooden Frame: Check the structural stability. If the chair legs are loose or cracks appear at the joints, reinforce them with wood glue; for severe damage, contact a professional. After repair, sand the surface with 240-grit sandpaper, following the wood grain direction to remove burrs and old paint layers, ensuring a smooth and even finish.
    • Metal Frame: Check for loose welds or joints and repair them with metal corner braces or specialized reinforcement pieces. When sanding, focus on treating rusted or chipped areas to prepare for subsequent painting.
  3. Painting or Fabric Replacement

    • Painting: Choose an eco-friendly wood finish (such as water-based paint or Sanqing paint) and adjust the color as needed. Apply thin coats in 2-3 layers using a roller or brush, with an interval of 2-3 hours between each layer. Use a small brush to touch up gaps. When spraying, maintain a distance of 20-30 cm and apply multiple thin coats. Finally, lightly sand with fine sandpaper to enhance the gloss.
    • Fabric Replacement: Select durable fabric (such as tech fabric or canvas) and cut it about 5 cm larger than the frame dimensions, leaving a margin for securing. Cover the frame with the fabric, pull it tight from the center outward, and secure it every 3 cm with a pneumatic stapler or manual U-nails, ensuring it is flat and wrinkle-free. If fabric pieces need to be joined, use a sewing machine to overlock the edges to prevent fraying.

II. Simple Refurbishment (Cleaning and Part Replacement)

  1. Thorough Cleaning

    • Use a screwdriver to remove the seat, backrest, and armrests. Wipe the frame clean with a soft cloth dampened with a neutral detergent, and treat stubborn stains with alcohol wipes.
    • Mesh seat surfaces can be rinsed with a showerhead and air-dried, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent deformation.
  2. Replacing Damaged Parts

    • Wheels: Simply pull out and replace them. It is recommended to choose silent casters to enhance the user experience.
    • Gas Lift: Invert the chair and knock out the old lift with a rubber mallet. When installing the new lift, ensure it matches the rotating base.
    • Leather Seat Surface: If the damage is severe and beyond repair, purchase an elastic chair cover online and wrap it directly without removing the original seat surface.
  3. Function Adjustment and Touch-Up

    • After assembly, adjust the height adjustment and recline functions to ensure smooth operation.
    • Apply anti-rust paint to chipped areas on metal frames and use a hot air gun to lightly heat and fade scratches on plastic parts (be careful to control the temperature to avoid deformation).

Precautions:

  • For complex structures (such as gas lifts and rotating bases) or valuable materials (such as solid wood and genuine leather), it is advisable to consult professional repair personnel first to avoid further damage caused by improper operation.
  • After refurbishment, ventilate and air-dry for more than 24 hours before use to ensure that paint or glue odors have completely dissipated.
