Nangong Chair as an Office Chair

Admin October 08, 2026

The Nangong chair can be used as an office chair, with various materials and design features that make it suitable for office settings.

Rongdingxuan's Ziguangtan Liuxia Nangong Chair: Its frame structure is derived from the large wooden beam structure of traditional Chinese architecture, providing great stability. The four chair legs subtly flare out to form an 'unchanging trapezoid', ensuring both visual and functional safety and stability, which guarantees the stability of the body during office work. The components on the seat surface have almost no straight lines; the S-shaped backrest and armrests are designed to converge into a balanced force that is both solemn and quiet, conforming to ergonomic principles. This allows office workers to maintain a comfortable posture during long hours of work and reduce physical fatigue. The chair is entirely plain without any carvings, and the backrest is a carefully selected single board, displaying natural patterns in a low-key yet vividly changing manner. It not only has practical value but also adds a touch of elegance to the office environment. The middle seat panel is seamlessly joined together through extremely precise mortise-and-tenon construction and woodworking techniques, reflecting exquisite craftsmanship and ensuring the chair's durability. As a representative work of Ming-style furniture, characterized by armrests and a top rail that do not protrude but bend down to engage with the perpendicular stretchers, the Liuxia Nangong chair has made minor adjustments on this basis. The top rail does not protrude, while the armrests slightly protrude, creating a sense of liveliness amidst tranquility, making the overall design more interesting and harmonious, and bringing a unique atmosphere to the office environment.

Ping'an Nangong Chair: Made of black rosewood/hedgehog rosewood, the main and secondary chairs have different specifications but the same style, both being classic Nangong chair designs, also known as Southern Official's Hat Chairs. The tall and expansive four-protruding official's hat chair has shed its wildness, creating a uniquely gentle and elegant ambiance of the Jiangnan region. The classic S-shaped peony-patterned backrest board strikes a balance between simplicity and complexity, with the tall backrest providing strong support for the lower back of the human body, helping office workers maintain good posture and prevent lower back diseases. The gently undulating contours are derived from time-honored mortise-and-tenon structures, with the armrests featuring a variant of the 'smoking-bag-pot mortise', creating smooth and natural curves that conform to the placement needs of the human hands, making office workers more comfortable when operating computers or writing. Below the seat panel, there is a zigzag-shaped hump stretcher designed to enhance the chair's load-bearing capacity while adding a touch of flexibility to the design. The four straight stretchers at the bottom are staggered and connected to the legs, following the traditional Chinese furniture craftsmanship of 'step-by-step ascending stretchers', preventing wood cracking at the same position and ensuring long-term durability, thus guaranteeing the service life of the office chair.
