MUJI Office Chair Installation

Admin October 16, 2026

The installation of a MUJI office chair can follow these general steps, with specific details potentially varying slightly by model. It is recommended to carefully read the product manual before installation:

1. Inventory the Parts

Before installation, remove all parts from the packaging and arrange them by category to ensure nothing is missing or damaged. The main parts typically include: a five-star base (chair legs), casters (wheels), a pneumatic lift rod (gas cylinder), a seat (including cushion and backrest), a lift control tray (or mechanism), screws, and tools (some models may come with armrests). If any parts are missing or damaged, contact after-sales service promptly for replacements.

2. Install Casters on the Five-Star Base

Place the five-star base flat on the ground and press or rotate each caster onto the end of each leg of the five-star base, ensuring a tight connection and smooth rotation. After installation, gently push the base to check if the casters are secure and roll smoothly.

3. Connect the Pneumatic Lift Rod to the Five-Star Base

Insert the pneumatic lift rod (gas cylinder) vertically into the center hole of the five-star base, ensuring the bottom of the rod is fully embedded and does not wobble. Some models may require rotating the rod to lock it in place; follow the manual for instructions. Pay attention to the orientation of the rod; usually, the end with the button or marking is the top.

4. Install the Seat and Tray

  1. If the seat and tray are separate: Flip the seat over (cushion facing down), remove the fixing screws from the bottom of the cushion, align the tray with the screw holes, and secure it with screws. Ensure the tray and seat are properly aligned with the clips or holes to avoid misalignment that could cause issues during use.
  2. If the seat and tray are integrated: Simply insert the seat (including tray) onto the top of the gas cylinder until you hear a โ€œclickโ€ or feel it lock in place. Gently shake the seat to confirm it is securely connected.

5. Install Armrests (if applicable)

Some MUJI office chairs come with armrests, which can be installed before or after the seat. Align the armrests with the pre-drilled holes on the sides of the cushion and secure them with screws. Keep the armrests level during installation to avoid tilting, which could affect comfort.

6. Final Inspection and Adjustment

  1. Safety Check: Sit on the chair, hold the lift control handle, and test if the pneumatic rod lifts and lowers smoothly and if the seat is stable without wobbling.
  2. Function Adjustment: If the chair has tilt or lock functions, test these to ensure they work properly. For example, after adjusting the backrest tilt angle, check if the locking mechanism holds it in place effectively.
  3. Detail Adjustment: Adjust the armrest height, seat height, etc., according to your needs to ensure ergonomic comfort.

Tip: Avoid using excessive force during installation. If clips or screws are difficult to align, recheck the steps or refer to the manual. After installation, it is recommended to keep the packaging materials for a while in case returns or exchanges are needed.
