MSDA Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 10, 2026

Refer to the following steps for disassembling an MSDA office chair. Ensure safety and protect the components during the process:

  1. Seat Disassembly
Flip the chair so that the seat faces downward. Use a wrench or screwdriver to remove the screws at the connection between the base and the seat. If the seat and the backrest are a fixed structure, disassemble the backrest first. Place the seat gently after removal to avoid scratches on the surface caused by bumps.

  2. Armrest Disassembly
Armrests are usually fixed to the armrest frame with screws. Use the corresponding tool (a wrench or screwdriver) to remove the screws on both sides. Operate symmetrically during disassembly to prevent structural deformation due to unilateral force. If the armrests are connected to the backrest, separate the backrest first and then disassemble the armrests.

  3. Backrest Disassembly
Check the connection method between the backrest and the seat:

  • Separate backrest: Locate the connection between the lower part of the backrest and the seat. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the fixing screws and then separate them.
  • Integrated backrest: If the backrest and the seat are an integral structure, skip this step.
Pay attention to the screw specifications during operation to avoid mixing them up, which may cause difficulties in subsequent installation.
  1. Leg Disassembly
Select tools according to the connection method:
  • Threaded connection: Use a wrench or pipe wrench to unscrew the nut at the connection between the legs and the base.
  • Snap-fit connection: Pull the legs upward while pressing the snap fasteners. Separate them when you hear a "click" sound.
After disassembly, check whether the threads or snap fasteners are intact to avoid loose installation later.
  1. Wheel Disassembly
Handle the three types as follows:
  • Circlip type: Align a flat-head screwdriver with the small circlip at the connection between the wheel and the bracket. Gently tap the handle of the screwdriver to loosen the circlip and then pull out the wheel.
  • Screw-fixed type: Rotate the small screw at the root of the wheel counterclockwise. Remove it directly after loosening.
  • Groove type: Invert the chair and vertically tap the top of the wheel 5 - 6 times with a hammer to loosen it and then disassemble it. If it is stuck due to rust, drip some cooking oil for lubrication and then tap it.
Place an old towel under the chair during operation to prevent scratches on the floor.
  1. Gas Lift Disassembly
  • Prepare tools: Screwdriver, rubber mallet, WD-40 lubricant (do not use a metal hammer).
  • Remove the backrest: Invert the chair and remove the fixing screws under the seat cushion.
  • Lubrication treatment: Apply the lubricant evenly on the black ring and the top joint of the gas lift, and let it stand for 1 hour.
  • Disassembly operation: Use a rubber mallet to tap the joint evenly. If it still cannot be separated, use a pipe wrench to clamp the gas lift and rotate it slowly. If it is difficult to operate by yourself, it is recommended to contact a repair shop and use a hydraulic press for processing to avoid damaging the chassis due to violent disassembly.

Precautions:

  • Take photos to record the positions of each component before disassembly for easy assembly later.
  • Handle the components gently to avoid losing screws or damaging plastic parts.
  • Wear gloves during operation to prevent metal scratches or contact between the lubricant and the skin.
  • If you encounter complex structures (such as hidden screws or snap fasteners), it is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact after-sales service.
