Disassembly of Office Chairs for Moving

Admin October 11, 2026

When moving, the disassembly of office chairs should be carried out step by step according to the structural type. The core principle is to disassemble in the reverse order of installation and retain all components. The specific methods are as follows:

I. General Disassembly Steps

  1. Separate the Headrest
Pull the headrest to its highest position, press down hard on the thin metal strip in the middle, and pull it out once the locking mechanism loosens. If the metal strip is difficult to operate, use a hard card (such as a bank card) to assist in prying open the buckle. Be careful not to apply excessive force that could deform the metal strip.

  2. Remove the Armrests
Invert the chair onto a stable, elevated platform (such as a table) and use an Allen wrench to loosen the fixing screws beneath the armrests. Some models may have armrests connected by buckles, which require a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry open the buckles for separation.

  3. Separate the Backrest from the Base
Use an Allen wrench to remove the screws at the connection between the backrest and the base. Some models may also require the removal of the base casing (such as plastic covers). If the screws are rusty, a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) can be sprayed to assist in disassembly.

  4. Handle the Gas Lift and Chair Legs

    • Separate the Chair Legs: Raise the gas lift to its highest point and gently tap the edges of the five-star chair legs with a rubber mallet (or a regular hammer cushioned by a wooden board) to loosen the connection with the gas lift and separate them.
    • Separate the Base: Invert the chair legs and tap the center of the base steel plate with a rubber mallet to detach the gas lift from the base. If the connection is too tight, gently shake the gas lift up and down while tapping.
  5. Remove the Casters
Simply pull the wheels off the five-star chair legs with force. If the wheels are stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg to pry it open, or use a hot air blower to heat the plastic part of the wheel to expand it and then pull it out.

II. Handling Special Cases

  • Stubborn Connections: If the connection between the gas lift and the chair legs is too tight, shake the entire chair or gently tap around the connection with a rubber mallet, avoiding concentrated tapping on one point that could damage the components.
  • Disassembly of the Lifting Rod: For some models, the gas lift may need to be gently tapped around the base (such as the edge of the metal ring) until it automatically detaches and can be removed. Wear gloves during operation to prevent scratches.

III. Precautions

  1. Observe the Structure: Before disassembly, observe the installation sequence of the chair (such as screw positions and buckle directions). Operating in the reverse order can avoid forced pulling that could cause component breakage.
  2. Component Storage: Classify and store all small components (screws, adapters, instruction manuals) in sealed bags and label their corresponding positions (such as โ€œleft armrest screwsโ€). Wrap them with foam or old clothes during packing to prevent loss.
  3. Safe Operation: If the chair has been in use for a long time (such as over 5 years), disassembly may require slightly more force. It is recommended to work with two people or use professional tools (such as an electric screwdriver). Avoid using a metal hammer to directly strike plastic components.

Example Model (Beike BC03Q Premium Edition): Use the Allen wrench provided with the box for disassembly. After disassembly, it is recommended to pack the base with its face down and fill the gaps with foam to protect the gas lift.
