Metal Pneumatic Office Chair

Admin October 22, 2026

A metal pneumatic office chair is an office furniture item that achieves height adjustment of the seat through the movement of the internal cylinder piston rod. It is commonly found in offices, homes, barber shops, and other places. Its core component is the pneumatic rod, and safety precautions must be taken during use.

Core Working Principle

The lifting function of a metal pneumatic office chair relies on the pneumatic rod (professionally known as a pneumatic lift). It is filled with high-purity nitrogen and other inert gases. When the user twists the handle at the bottom of the chair, the volume of the gas inside the pneumatic rod is changed manually or electrically: compressing the gas lowers the seat, while releasing the gas raises it. This design utilizes the compressibility of gases, allowing the seat to remain stable at any height. Some advanced models are also equipped with rotating knobs to adjust the tightness of the backrest's recline, enhancing user comfort.

Structure and Materials

The basic structure of a metal pneumatic office chair includes wheels, a five-star base (chair legs), a pneumatic rod, a chassis, and other components. Its material selection balances functionality and safety:

  • Seat Surface Materials: There are two main types: leather and mesh. Leather models often use PU leather or genuine leather and are commonly found in executive and mid-level chairs, presenting a more formal appearance. Mesh models offer excellent breathability, making them suitable for summer use and commonly found in entry-level chairs.
  • Structural Component Materials: Key parts such as the frame, base, and chair legs are usually made of metal (e.g., aluminum alloy) or high-strength engineering plastics to ensure the chair is stable and can withstand daily use pressures.

Safety Risks and Prevention

The quality of the pneumatic rod directly affects usage safety. If a low-quality pneumatic rod is used or the gas filled inside has insufficient purity, the internal pressure of the pneumatic rod may suddenly increase under frequent lifting, high-temperature environments, or external impacts, leading to an explosion risk. There have been multiple serious injury accidents caused by pneumatic rod explosions in history. To reduce risks, the following precautions should be taken:

  • Purchase Genuine Products: Prioritize well-known brands that have passed safety certifications and avoid buying unbranded products.
  • Standardize Usage Operations: Avoid using the chair as a footrest, shaking it violently, or frequently adjusting its height to reduce the load on the pneumatic rod.
  • Regular Inspection and Maintenance: Regularly check the appearance of the pneumatic rod for any damage. If gas leakage, deformation, or abnormal lifting is detected, stop using it immediately and contact after-sales service.

A metal pneumatic office chair achieves convenient height adjustment through scientific design, but safe use requires high-quality components and standardized operations as prerequisites.
