Mesh or PU Office Chair

Admin October 08, 2026

Mesh office chairs and PU office chairs each have their own advantages and disadvantages. The choice should be based on personal needs: choose a mesh chair for breathability and a PU chair for comfort and durability.

The core advantage of a mesh office chair lies in its breathability. The mesh material forms air circulation channels, effectively dissipating heat and preventing discomfort caused by stuffiness in the buttocks and back during prolonged sitting, making it especially suitable for summer or people who sweat easily. Additionally, the elastic design of the mesh distributes body pressure, reducing pressure on the buttocks and waist, and providing some auxiliary support in preventing hemorrhoids, lumbar muscle strain, and other sitting-related diseases. For cleaning, the mesh can be wiped directly with a damp cloth or removed for washing, resulting in low maintenance costs. In terms of price, mesh chairs are generally less expensive than PU chairs due to their relatively simple materials and craftsmanship, making them suitable for users with limited budgets. However, the disadvantages of mesh chairs are also apparent: the elasticity of the mesh may decrease over time, leading to reduced support; some users report that the seat feels too hard, which may cause fatigue after prolonged use; and the design is mostly simple, with a weaker appearance and texture.

The advantages of a PU office chair are concentrated in comfort and durability. PU (polyurethane) material is wear-resistant, wrinkle-resistant, and elastic, with a surface texture similar to genuine leather, providing a softer seating experience suitable for users who need to work for long hours. Its structural stability is strong, with a typical lifespan of over 5 years, much longer than the 2-3 years of a mesh chair. In terms of appearance, PU chairs can enhance their texture through embossing, stitching, and other craftsmanship, making them suitable for users who pursue the overall style of the office environment. However, the breathability of PU material is poor, and prolonged sitting in summer may cause a stuffy feeling; some low-quality PU chairs may release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), so it is necessary to choose products that meet environmental standards; in terms of price, PU chairs are generally 30%-50% more expensive than mesh chairs due to their higher material and craftsmanship costs.

Selection advice: If the office environment is well-ventilated, it is hot in summer, or you need to prevent sitting-related health problems, prioritize choosing a mesh chair; if you value comfort, durability, and appearance texture, and have a sufficient budget, a PU chair is more suitable.
