Mesh Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 11, 2026

The disassembly of a mesh office chair should be carried out step by step, mainly involving the disassembly of the backrest mesh and the chair base. It is necessary to select tools according to the structural characteristics and operate with caution.

Disassembly of the Backrest Mesh

  1. Tool Preparation: You will need a Phillips screwdriver, a flat-head screwdriver, and pliers. If you need to replace the mesh, prepare a new piece of mesh that matches the original size in advance.
  2. Operation Steps:
    • Separate the Backrest from the Base: Flip the chair over so that the base is facing up. Locate the buckles or clips connecting the backrest to the base, and release them by pressing or prying to separate the two parts.
    • Remove the Backrest Panel: Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the fixing screws on the backrest (usually located at the edges or back of the backrest). Take off the backrest panel that covers the outside of the mesh to expose the internal structure.
    • Remove the Old Mesh:
      • If the mesh is fixed with buckles or springs, use pliers to grip the edge of the buckle and pull it outwards, or rotate the spring to detach it from the fixing slot, and carefully remove the old mesh.
      • If the mesh is fixed with a staple gun (common on wooden backrests), use a staple remover to pry up the staples one by one along the edge of the mesh. Be careful not to scratch the surface of the backrest during operation.

Disassembly of the Chair Base

  1. Tool Preparation: You will need a wrench, a screwdriver, and flat-nose pliers. If you need to disassemble the gas lift, prepare additional lubricant (such as WD-40).
  2. Operation Steps:
    • Secure the Chair: Flip the chair over so that the base is facing up and place it on a stable surface to prevent it from sliding or tipping over.
    • Remove the Base Screws: Use a wrench to hold the nut at the bottom of the gas lift, and use a screwdriver to loosen the screws connecting the base to the gas lift. Take off the base (be sure to keep the screws to avoid losing them).
    • Separate the Gas Lift: Use flat-nose pliers to grip the metal ring at the top of the gas lift, rotate the shaft clockwise (some models may require counterclockwise rotation), and pull it upwards at the same time to detach the gas lift from the base. If rotation is difficult, spray a small amount of lubricant to assist.
    • Remove the Leg Wheels and Chassis: The leg wheels are usually fixed to the chassis with buckles or threads. Pull them out directly by hand or unscrew them with a wrench. If the chassis has a dust seal ring, carefully peel it off to avoid tearing.

Precautions

  • Operate with Caution: Avoid using excessive force during disassembly to prevent parts from deforming or breaking. For old chairs, disassembly may lead to a decrease in stability due to material aging. It is not recommended for non-professionals to replace the mesh or base casually.
  • Part Management: Store the removed screws, buckles, and other small parts in categories to avoid losing them. If you need to replace parts, record the model numbers of the original parts to ensure compatibility.
  • Safety Protection: If you are using a staple remover or pliers, it is advisable to wear gloves to prevent cuts. When disassembling the gas lift, avoid the shaft suddenly popping out and causing injury.
  • Professional Assistance: If the chair has a complex structure (such as an integrated backrest or hidden screws) or if you lack repair experience, it is recommended to contact after-sales service or a professional repair person to avoid secondary damage caused by improper operation.
