Making Office Chairs by Hand

Admin October 10, 2026

There are mainly three handmade methods for making office chairs: using cola cans, nuts, and disposable round chopsticks.

Making an office chair from cola cans: First, prepare several cola cans. Cut off the tops and bottoms, keeping only the can bodies that contain the frozen cola. Put the processed can bodies into a glass jar, then heat them with boiling water to melt the frozen cola inside. After melting, take out the can bodies, cut them open, and flatten them. Next, use a wave machine to roll and shape the flattened can bodies, which can create the desired shape and texture for the office chair. However, office chairs made in this way may be relatively simple and may have certain limitations in terms of load-bearing capacity and stability, making them suitable as creative handmade display items.

Nut office chair: This method is relatively complex and highly creative. First, make a model of a girlfriend's upper back. This step requires certain sculpting skills and patience to ensure that the shape and proportions of the model meet expectations. After the model is completed, evenly place nuts on it. The nuts should be firmly welded together to ensure the stability of the structure. After welding, polish the surface to make it smoother. At the same time, prepare a wooden stake. Grind matching marks on the wooden stake according to the nut structure, then pour wood wax oil onto it and let it dry to protect and beautify the wooden stake. Finally, remove the welded nut structure from the model, insert it into the wooden stake, and fix it. Thus, the nut office chair is completed. This kind of office chair has a unique industrial style, but the production process has high technical requirements.

Making a rotating backrest chair from disposable round chopsticks: First, take a disposable chopstick, measure and cut it to a length of 5 cm. Repeat this operation to cut out 12 chopsticks of the same length. Glue them together and stick two chopsticks on each side as a seat. Next, use chopsticks with lengths of 4.5 cm, 2 cm, and 25 cm to make part of the chair's structure. Make two such structures and stick them on both sides of the seat plate respectively. Then make a backrest and stick it diagonally behind the stool. Next, use chopsticks with lengths of 6 cm, 3 cm, and 5 - 6 cm to make a support structure to enhance the stability of the chair. Stick chopsticks at the four corners of the chair, roll them up with paper that is 1.5 cm wide to allow the chopsticks to move freely. After pulling out the chopsticks, stick double-sided tape on them, cut out seven 1.5 cm chopsticks and stick them on for fixation. Finally, stick this structure to the bottom of the chair, put in a footrest, and the rotating backrest chair is completed. Office chairs made in this way have a relatively low cost, but they may also be inferior to professional office chairs in terms of load-bearing capacity and durability.
