Make Your Own Office Chair
Admin October 10, 2026
There are two common methods for making an office chair: assembling a swivel office computer chair purchased online and crafting a wooden chair. Here are the specific steps:

Assembling a Swivel Office Computer Chair Purchased Online
- Install the wheels: Prepare the accessories, press the wheels firmly down, ensure they are securely installed, then snap on the plastic cover, and attach the connecting rod. Pay attention to the installation direction of the wheels to ensure they can rotate normally.
- Assemble the chair seat: Locate the backrest with holes and place it with the hole side facing up. Align the holes on the armrests with those on the backrest and tighten them with the screws from the accessory kit. If you have an Allen wrench, you can use it to speed up the screw-tightening process.
- Install the armrests: Align the armrests with holes in the corresponding positions and secure them with short screws. Pay attention to the tightness of the screws to avoid them being too loose or too tight.
- Install the seat cushion: Align the seat cushion with the four holes under the chair and tighten it with four screws. At the same time, there are also four holes on the back of the chair; find the corresponding positions and screw them in.
- Completion: Thread a long screw through the hole and screw it in from the bottom. The office chair assembly is now complete.
Crafting a Wooden Chair
- Gather materials: Prepare 2x2 wooden strips, 1x4 wooden strips, a 1.5-inch plywood sheet, 1/4-inch wedge-shaped wooden strips, woodworking glue, 2.5-inch deck screws, double-ended screws, a drill with a 1/4-inch drill bit, a jigsaw, and a circular saw.
- Cut the components: Cut out wooden strips of different sizes as required and assemble the sides. Drill holes, apply glue, and insert tenons at the corresponding positions to assemble the components into the two sides of the chair.
- Prepare for connection: Cut the 1x4 wooden board, cut out the seat board and notch it, and drill holes in the board.
- Repair the chair backrest: Apply glue to both ends of the backrest wooden board, insert the tenons, and embed them in the chair back. Wait for the glue to dry.
- Insert the backrest/seat combination: Apply glue and secure the seat and side pieces. Insert the deck screws through the plywood into the front posts.
- Secure other components: Glue and fix the apron, insert the deck screws, and use corner braces inside the chair to strengthen the connections.
- Sand and paint: Sand the surface of the chair to prepare for staining or painting. You can also sand the edges smooth and then paint them.
