Maintenance of Solid Wood Office Chairs

Admin October 16, 2026

The maintenance of solid wood office chairs should be carried out comprehensively from four aspects: daily cleaning, regular maintenance, environmental control, and usage habits. The specific methods are as follows:

1. Daily Cleaning
For daily cleaning, use a soft, dry cotton cloth to wipe the wooden parts to prevent dust particles from wearing down the paint surface. If there are stains on the surface, wring out a wet towel until it is slightly damp and then wipe. It is strictly prohibited to wipe directly with a dry cloth, and do not use chemical cleaners such as soapy water or dishwashing detergent for direct cleaning, as these may damage the natural oils or paint layers on the wooden surface, leading to dryness, cracking, or discoloration. After cleaning, immediately dry any residual moisture with a dry cloth to prevent deformation caused by moisture penetration.

2. Regular Maintenance
Every quarter, use wood wax oil or natural wax for nourishing and protecting. The specific operation is divided into three steps:

  • Step 1: Dip a dry cloth into a small amount of beeswax or walnut oil and wipe it evenly along the wood grain direction once or twice to ensure the oil penetrates into the wood fibers;
  • Step 2: If using beeswax, wait for half an hour and then polish it with a dry cloth to form a protective film; if using walnut oil, wait for two hours before polishing to avoid a sticky surface due to incomplete oil absorption;
  • Step 3: Note that walnut oil is prone to oxidation and rancidity. Long-term use can accelerate the decomposition of wood fibers, cause cracks, and attract dust and bacteria. Therefore, for furniture with hot waxing techniques, natural beeswax is preferred for maintenance; for lacquered or modern painted furniture, professional wooden furniture maintenance oil is recommended, as its ingredients are more stable and can form a long-lasting protective layer.

3. Environmental Control
Solid wood is sensitive to temperature and humidity. Maintain indoor humidity at 40%-60% and temperature at 20-24โ„ƒ. Avoid exposing the chair to extreme environments for long periods:

  • Keep it away from heat sources such as radiators and air conditioning vents to prevent local overheating, which can cause the wood to shrink and crack;
  • Avoid placing it close to floor-to-ceiling windows or exposing it to direct sunlight for long periods, as UV rays can accelerate the aging and fading of the paint layer;
  • Keep it away from damp basements or areas near bathrooms to prevent moisture penetration, which can cause mildew or swelling and deformation.

4. Usage Habits

  • Avoid bumping the chair with hard objects or scratching the seat surface with sharp objects to prevent irreversible scratches;
  • If used as a dining chair, keep a heat-resistant pad on the table to prevent high-temperature tableware from directly contacting the wooden surface, avoiding burn marks or paint peeling;
  • When moving the chair, it is recommended to lift it rather than drag it to reduce friction between the legs and the ground, preventing paint wear or structural loosening.
