Lifting Office Chair Cylinder

Admin October 12, 2026

The lifting office chair cylinder is the core component of the office chair's hydraulic rod, enabling the chair's lifting function through pressure changes in compressed air or hydraulic oil, and featuring stability control capabilities.

Structural Composition

The lifting office chair cylinder typically consists of an inner tube, an outer tube, and seals. A sealed cavity is formed between the inner and outer tubes, filled with compressed air or hydraulic oil, while the seals ensure the cavity's airtightness, preventing gas or liquid leakage. This structure provides the foundation for pressure transmission.

Working Principle

  1. Lifting Process: When a user needs to raise the chair, the valve at the hydraulic cylinder's inlet opens, allowing compressed air or hydraulic oil to enter the bottom of the cylinder through the inlet. The pressure acts on the bottom piston, pushing the inner tube (pneumatic rod) upward. Since the area of the bottom piston is larger than that of the piston on the pneumatic rod, according to Pascal's principle, the pressure is transmitted through the piston to the pneumatic rod, generating an upward lifting force that raises the chair.
  2. Lowering Process: When the user applies external force (such as sitting pressure) or adjusts the valve to open, the pressure inside the hydraulic cylinder decreases. At this point, the compressed air or hydraulic oil flows back through the valve, and the pneumatic rod sinks due to gravity, lowering the chair's height. The lowering speed can be adjusted by controlling the degree of valve opening.

Stability Control Mechanism

The cylinder incorporates a damping device that controls speed by increasing the flow resistance of the hydraulic oil or compressed air. When the chair is lifted or lowered, the damping device slows down the flow speed of the gas or liquid, preventing sudden pressure changes that could cause the chair to drop rapidly or bounce, ensuring a smooth and safe lifting and lowering process.

Key Characteristics

  • Pressure Transmission Efficiency: The difference in piston areas is the core factor in generating lifting force. Precise calculations are required during design to balance load-bearing capacity with lifting flexibility.
  • Sealing Requirements: The seal material must be wear-resistant and aging-resistant to prevent oil or gas leakage after long-term use, which could affect functional stability.
  • Damping Adjustment: The resistance value of the damping device must be moderate, capable of controlling speed without causing excessive resistance that makes lifting and lowering difficult.

The lifting office chair cylinder combines mechanical and hydraulic principles to achieve flexible height adjustment and safety control for the chair, making it an indispensable functional component in modern office furniture.
