Leather Office Chair Too High

Admin October 11, 2026

If a leather office chair is too high, solutions include adjusting the chair height, adding a footrest, changing posture, or using a foot pad.

  1. Adjusting the Chair Height
Most leather office chairs are equipped with a pneumatic height adjustment mechanism. The key to adjusting the chair height is to locate the control lever beneath the chair (usually on the right side or underneath the seat). Press and hold the lever while using your body weight to assist in the adjustment: to lower the height, gently press down on the seat; to raise it, slightly lift yourself up and pull the seat upward until you reach a comfortable height, then release the lever. This method directly addresses the root cause of the issue, but be aware that some chairs may experience reduced sensitivity in the pneumatic rod over time, requiring multiple attempts or contacting after-sales service for inspection and repair.

  2. Adding a Footrest
If the chair height cannot be adjusted or remains unsatisfactory after adjustment, external aids can be used to improve the situation. Choose a footrest with a moderate thickness (recommended 5-10cm) and a flat surface, such as a hardwood board, non-slip rubber mat, or professional office footstool, and place it on the floor in front of the chair to ensure your feet can rest steadily. For temporary emergencies, books or cardboard boxes can be used as alternatives, but ensure they are securely fixed to prevent slipping and potential safety hazards. The advantage of professional footrests lies in their ergonomic design, which distributes foot pressure and reduces lower limb fatigue over long-term use.

  3. Changing Posture
When immediate hardware adjustments are not possible, optimizing your sitting posture can help alleviate discomfort. Lean slightly forward so that your toes touch the ground, while keeping your waist naturally straight and avoiding excessive forward or backward bending. This posture can temporarily stretch the lumbar muscles and reduce pressure concentration on the lumbar spine caused by a chair that is too high. However, it is important to note that maintaining a non-standard sitting posture for extended periods can lead to muscle strain, so this should only be used as a temporary solution, combined with regular breaks (standing or walking for 5 minutes every 30-60 minutes).

  4. Using a Foot Pad
A foot pad serves a similar function to a footrest but places greater emphasis on protecting foot circulation. Choose a foot pad with an arched support or breathable material that conforms to the contours of your feet and distributes pressure points, making it especially suitable for people who work at a desk for long periods. When using, ensure the height of the pad matches the height difference after adjusting the chair to avoid abnormal knee bending angles (it is recommended to keep the knees slightly bent at about 90ยฐ), thereby maintaining lower limb joint health.
