Structure of Leather Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

The structure of leather office chairs mainly includes four aspects: basic components, materials and fabrics, mechanical support design, and other components.

Basic Components: The basic components of a leather office chair include casters, a five-star base, a gas lift, a seat plate, a seat, armrests, a backrest, and a headrest. Among them, the gas lift is a core component that utilizes the compressibility of gas to change the volume of gas inside the cylinder through manual or electric means, enabling the seat to be raised or lowered. The seat plate connects the gas lift to the seat, providing stable support. The five-star base, as the chair legs, is usually made of metal or high-strength engineering plastics to ensure the stability of the chair. The casters are installed at the bottom of the five-star base, facilitating the movement of the chair.

Materials and Fabrics: The leather upholstery of leather office chairs is often made of PU leather or genuine leather. The tanning process of the top-grain leather in leather office chairs determines its breathability and stretchability. Aniline leather treatment can retain the natural texture but requires regular maintenance. Structural components such as the frame, base, and chair legs are commonly made of metal (such as aluminum alloy) or high-strength engineering plastics to ensure stability and safety. Some solid wood frames are easier to achieve natural curves compared to metal but require higher strength for the connecting parts.

Mechanical Support Design: The S-shaped curve of the backrest should match the curvature of the human spine to provide good support. Springs are often used in the seat cushion and backrest to provide support and cushioning, and the elasticity of the springs can be adjusted according to different usage needs. The armrest design focuses on providing additional support and comfort, with its shape, height, and angle adjustable according to the user's needs. Some leather office chairs also check whether the leather stitching on the inner side of the armrests uses double-line reinforcement to enhance durability.

Other Components: The slide rail is a key component that enables the office chair to slide forward and backward. It is usually made of metal and has high strength and wear resistance. The locking mechanism can manually or automatically lock the adjustable parts of the seat in the desired position to prevent accidental movement during use. Some high-end leather office chairs are also equipped with electric mechanisms, and the sealing level of their gearboxes directly affects the noise control and service life of the massage components, and they should have overload protection devices.
