Sound of Leather Office Chair

Admin October 14, 2026

The reasons for the sound emitted by leather office chairs mainly include issues with the leather material, internal filling, improper cleaning methods, loose components, and malfunctioning gas springs, which can be resolved through targeted measures.

Leather Material Issues: Some leather chairs use soft and elastic leather materials that may produce a slight hissing sound when compressed, usually without affecting use. However, after prolonged use, the leather may become dry, aged, and hardened, causing a squeaking sound due to friction between the leather pieces when getting up or sitting down. Solution: Regularly use leather conditioner to care for the seat, maintaining the leather's softness and elasticity and delaying aging.

Internal Filling Issues: When the filling becomes loose or gas moves between the filling materials, it may cause a brief hissing sound. Such sounds are usually temporary and typically do not affect the chair's structure or function. Solution: No special treatment is required. If the sound persists or worsens, check if the filling has shifted and contact a professional for adjustment if necessary.

Improper Cleaning Methods: Accumulated dust between the leather surface and plastic guard can cause friction sounds, especially noticeable in dry environments. Directly spraying cleaning agents may allow liquid to seep into the gaps, becoming sticky upon drying and exacerbating friction sounds. Solution: Wipe the leather surface with a damp cloth that has been wrung out to avoid liquid seepage; if dust has accumulated, use a soft-bristled brush to gently sweep the gaps before wiping clean.

Loose Components: Connectors such as screws and nuts may become loose due to prolonged shaking or movement, causing friction or collision between components when the chair tilts or rotates, resulting in a squeaking sound. Solution: Check the connections between the chair legs and seat, armrests and seat, etc., and tighten loose components with a screwdriver or wrench; if the screws are severely worn, replace them promptly.

Gas Spring Malfunction: The gas spring is a key component for height adjustment. If there is internal gas leakage or poor sealing, a squeaking sound may occur when adjusting the height or when the load changes. Solution: Do not disassemble it yourself. Contact the manufacturer or a professional repair technician to inspect and replace the gas spring to ensure safety.
