Production Method of Leather Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

The production of leather office chairs involves six core steps: raw material selection, internal material preparation, frame construction, leather cutting and sewing, internal filling and assembly, and final inspection and adjustment. The specific process is as follows:

1. Raw Material Selection and Inspection
The leather for leather office chairs should be selected from coiled materials that have undergone preliminary processing such as tanning and dyeing. Depending on design requirements and cost control, options include full-grain leather (retaining natural texture and good breathability), corrected-grain leather (smooth surface and strong abrasion resistance), or composite leather (lower cost and moderate durability). After arriving at the factory, the leather must undergo strict quality inspection, checking for color uniformity, thickness, and softness, and evaluating physical properties through tests such as stretching, abrasion resistance, and scratch resistance to ensure compliance with industry standards.

2. Internal Material Preparation
The filling material should be high-density rebound foam (usually with a density of 40-60kg/mยณ, providing long-lasting support). Metal components include a five-star base (with a load-bearing capacity of over 100kg), a gas lift (certified by BIFMA, supporting 360-degree rotation and height adjustment), as well as precision gas rods, chassis mechanisms (for adjusting the recline angle), and casters (requiring quiet operation and abrasion resistance). All materials must undergo load-bearing tests, fatigue tests, and corrosion resistance tests before being put into storage to ensure safety.

3. Frame Construction
The main frame is made of steel (such as Q235 carbon steel) and is formed through processes such as cutting, bending, welding, and grinding. The welding points must be ground smooth to avoid scratching the leather or the user; then, they undergo pre-treatment for oil and rust removal, and are coated with a 0.5-1mm thick layer through electrostatic powder spraying to enhance abrasion resistance and rust prevention. The frame should conform to ergonomic design to ensure reasonable support for the waist and back.

4. Leather Cutting and Sewing
Experienced workers cut the leather into components such as seat cushion covers, backrest covers, and armrest covers according to the design drawings, paying attention to keeping the grain direction consistent to enhance aesthetics. Sewing is done using industrial sewing machines with high-strength nylon threads (such as 60# threads), using processes such as flat seams and double-needle seams. The stitch spacing is controlled at 3-5mm to ensure firmness and natural alignment of the grain at the seams. Key areas (such as corners) require reinforced sewing.

5. Internal Filling and Assembly
The backrest should be fitted with a shredded wood chip board (to enhance structural stability) and wrapped with foam, then covered with a leather pad and fitted with a plastic cover; the swivel plate is locked onto the base, the hydraulic column (supporting height adjustment and rotation) is installed, and then the aluminum base and five casters are fixed; the backrest can be fitted with an automotive-style headrest and adjustable armrests. The filling layer uses high-rebound foam, individually pocketed springs, or latex layers, with the leather as the outer layer working in conjunction with the filling to create a "soft but not sinking" support effect, preventing fatigue from prolonged sitting.

6. Final Inspection and Adjustment
After assembly, a comprehensive inspection is required: testing the smoothness of the height adjustment, rotation, and recline functions, checking if the casters rotate quietly, and confirming that all screws are tightened without looseness; adjusting the backrest recline angle (usually 100-120 degrees), headrest height, and armrest position according to ergonomic principles to ensure comfort for over 95% of the population. Finally, an appearance inspection is conducted to remove any excess threads or glue stains.
