Height of Leather Office Chairs
Admin October 16, 2026
The standard height range for leather office chairs is 40-50 centimeters, with mainstream products typically allowing for free adjustment between 36-48 centimeters, depending on the user's height and sitting posture. Here are the specific adjustment principles and considerations:

I. Height Adaptation Principles
- For individuals under 160 centimeters tall: It is recommended to adjust the chair height to the lowest setting (36 centimeters) to ensure that both feet can rest flat on the ground when seated, preventing impaired blood circulation in the legs due to suspension.
- For individuals over 180 centimeters tall: A desk height of 75 centimeters is required, and the chair height should be adjusted so that the thighs are parallel to the ground and the elbows are bent at a 90-degree angle. The height difference between the desk and chair should be maintained at 28-32 centimeters to reduce shoulder and neck strain.
II. Core Ergonomic Standards
- Foot support: When seated, both feet should rest firmly on the ground. If they cannot reach the ground, a footrest should be added. If the legs are compressed by the front edge of the chair, the chair height should be increased.
- Leg space: There should be enough space under the thighs to easily fit the palm of your hand (approximately 2-3 centimeters of clearance), with 5 centimeters of space behind the knees to prevent the chair edge from compressing the blood vessels and nerves in the popliteal fossa.
- Elbow angle: When the arms are hanging naturally, the elbows should be bent at a 90-degree angle to ensure that the upper and lower arms are perpendicular during keyboard operation, reducing the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome.
III. Safety and Material Considerations
- Gas lift cylinder grade: It is advisable to choose a Class 4 gas lift cylinder (with a load capacity of up to 300 kilograms), as its explosion risk is only 1/17 that of a Class 3 cylinder. Poor-quality cylinders may suddenly drop or explode due to insufficient internal nitrogen or seal failure.
- Impact of leather type: Natural materials like top-grain cowhide offer better breathability, but the height adjustment logic remains the same as for ordinary office chairs. Synthetic leather may experience adjustment stuttering due to aging after long-term use, requiring regular inspection and lubrication of the gas lift cylinder.
Summary: The height adjustment of leather office chairs should be based on national standards, fine-tuned according to height, desk height, and ergonomic principles, while also paying attention to the safety grade of the gas lift cylinder and material characteristics to reduce health risks and enhance comfort.
