Disassembly of Leather Office Chair
Admin October 09, 2026
The disassembly of a leather office chair can be carried out according to the following steps, with attention paid to tool selection and operational specifications:

I. Preparation before Disassembly
- Tool Preparation: You will need a rubber mallet (to avoid damaging the paint with a metal hammer), a Phillips/flat-head screwdriver, a wrench, and large scissors or diagonal pliers.
- Environment Setup: Choose a spacious and flat surface, and lay down a soft cloth or cardboard to prevent scratches on the leather. It is recommended to take photos of the connection parts with your phone or mark the positions of the parts with a marker pen for easier reassembly later.
II. Disassembly Steps for Core Components
Caster Disassembly
- Pull the wheels outward with force directly; if they are stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver or diagonal pliers into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg and pry.
- If the wheels are entangled with hair or debris, lay the chair down first, and use long scissors or curved tweezers to clean the debris before disassembly.
Gas Lift Disassembly
- Invert the chair to expose the connection between the gas lift and the five-star base. Use a rubber mallet to strike the lower part of the connection (the red/silver metal part), avoiding the hydraulic oil area (green/black).
- If the retaining ring is tight, apply cooking oil for lubrication and let it sit for 1-2 hours before retrying. Do not use a metal hammer or wrench to pry forcefully to prevent damage to the seal, which could lead to air leakage or explosion of the gas lift.
Seat Cushion Disassembly
- After removing the gas lift, invert the chair and use a rubber mallet to strike evenly around the metal rim at the bottom of the seat cushion, then use your hands to pull upward to loosen the base.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the screws connecting the seat cushion to the chassis, continue to tap the chassis lightly, while stepping on the chassis with your foot and holding the hydraulic piston rod with your hand to separate the two.
Backrest Disassembly
- Check the fixing method of the backrest: most are connected by screws. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws at the connection between the backrest and the seat cushion.
III. Disassembly Reference for Other Components
- Chair Seat Disassembly: Invert the chair with the seat facing down, and use a wrench or screwdriver to remove the screws on the base. If the seat cushion is fixed to the backrest, disassemble the backrest first and then the seat.
- Armrest Disassembly: Use a wrench or screwdriver to remove the screws on the armrest frame, and follow the same steps to disassemble the other side.
- Chair Leg Disassembly:
- Threaded Connection: Use a wrench to unscrew the nuts at the connection of the chair legs.
- Snap-fit Connection: Lift the chair legs upward and press the snap to disassemble.
IV. Key Precautions
- Avoid violent disassembly during operation to prevent damage to the gas lift, screw holes, or leather.
- Only use cooking oil as a lubricant; chemical solvents are prohibited.
- After disassembly, store the parts properly and keep them in the order marked by the photos or marks for easier reassembly.
