Lamex Office Chair Oil Leakage

Admin October 10, 2026

If a Lamex office chair uses a pneumatic/hydraulic lift rod and experiences oil leakage, it must be immediately taken out of use and the entire hydraulic rod replaced with a new one. Do not continue to use it or attempt repairs.

Causes of Oil Leakage and Component Characteristics

Pneumatic/hydraulic lift rods commonly used in office chairs have a high-pressure sealed structure inside and are considered disposable components. Their design principle relies on internal high-pressure gas or hydraulic oil to achieve lifting and lowering functions. Once the sealed structure is damaged, leading to oil leakage, it indicates that the internal high-pressure environment has been compromised and cannot be restored to its sealed state through simple repairs. These components are designed to be non-disassemblable for repairs at the time of manufacture. Forcing disassembly may cause sudden changes in internal pressure, leading to more serious safety issues.

Risks of Continued Use

An oil-leaking lift rod will directly cause abnormal functioning of the chair:

  1. Lifting and Lowering Failure: After hydraulic oil leakage, the internal pressure is insufficient to support the chair's lifting and lowering.
  2. Height Locking Failure: Damaged seals may prevent the pneumatic/hydraulic system from maintaining pressure, resulting in the chair's height being unable to be fixed.
  3. Slow Automatic Sinking: After oil leakage, the internal pressure continues to decrease, causing the chair to gradually sink due to gravity.
  4. Loss of Stability: In the most severe cases, the lift rod may suddenly collapse due to internal structural damage, causing the user to fall or be injured. These risks may all lead to accidents, especially when using oil-leaking components for an extended period, as safety hazards accumulate over time.

Solutions and Costs

Replacing the hydraulic rod with a new one is the only safe and economical solution:

  1. Simple Operation: Usually, it only requires unscrewing the old rod and installing the new one, without the need for professional tools.
  2. Low Cost: The price of a qualified new rod is usually only a few dozen yuan, far lower than the cost of replacing the entire chair.
  3. Complete Problem Resolution: The new rod can restore the chair's original functions and eliminate all risks associated with oil leakage. It is recommended to choose a regular brand hydraulic rod that matches the original chair to avoid secondary failures caused by using inferior alternatives.

Summary: Oil-leaking pneumatic/hydraulic lift rods must be replaced entirely. Do not risk it for small gains. Prompt replacement of the new rod not only ensures safety but also restores the chair's functions at a lower cost.
