Japanese-style Office Chair Renovation
The renovation of Japanese-style office chairs can refer to general office chair renovation methods, mainly divided into three core steps: cleaning, component replacement and functional debugging, and surface treatment. The specific operations are as follows:

Step 1: Complete disassembly and cleaning
First, disassemble the chair's structure. Use a screwdriver to remove detachable components such as the seat, backrest, and armrests. Different materials require differentiated cleaning methods: For metal frames, wipe with a soft cloth dipped in a neutral cleaner. Stubborn stains can be treated locally with alcohol wipes. For mesh seat surfaces, rinse with a showerhead and let them air-dry naturally in a well-ventilated area, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent material aging. For leather or faux leather surfaces, use a dedicated leather cleaner with a soft-bristled brush for gentle care to prevent scratches.
Step 2: Replace damaged components and perform functional debugging
- Core component replacement: An aging gas lift rod can cause malfunctioning height adjustment. Invert the chair and gently tap the bottom of the old rod with a rubber mallet to detach it from the base, then replace it with a new one. Worn or stuck wheels can be directly unplugged and replaced. It is recommended to choose silent casters to enhance the user experience. If the leather seat surface shows extensive cracking or sagging, an elastic seat cover can be purchased online and directly wrapped around without complex stitching.
- Functional debugging: After assembly, test whether functions such as height adjustment, tilt, and rotation are normal. If metal connectors are loose, tighten the screws with a wrench. If the chair wobbles, check whether the installation angle of the gas lift rod and the base is perpendicular.
Step 3: Surface treatment and detail repair
- Metal frame maintenance: For chipped paint, apply anti-rust paint in dots. After drying, spray metal paint close to the original color. Maintain a distance of 20-30 centimeters during spraying and apply multiple thin coats to avoid runs. Minor scratches can be sanded with fine sandpaper and then coated with metal repair paste.
- Plastic part repair: For scratches, use a hot air gun (temperature controlled at 100-120ยฐC) to gently heat the plastic surface, allowing it to soften and naturally restore flatness. If the plastic is aged and yellowed, wipe it with a cleaner containing oxidizing agents, but first test compatibility in a concealed area.
- Wooden component renovation: If the chair has wooden armrests or frames, first sand along the wood grain to remove old paint. Then choose a wood finish (such as white Sanqing paint) and spray it in three coats, with an interval of 1-2 hours between each coat. Pay special attention to treating gaps to prevent dust accumulation.
Precautions: Before renovation, evaluate the structural integrity of the chair. If the frame is severely deformed or broken, it is recommended to replace it directly. Wear gloves and goggles during operation to avoid contact between cleaners or paints and the skin. If electrical components (such as heated seats) are involved, they should be handled by professionals.
