Japanese-style Office Chair Adjustment

Admin October 10, 2026

The adjustment functions of Japanese-style office chairs mainly include height adjustment, recline adjustment, and specific model-based lumbar support and recline force adjustment, with specific operation methods varying by model and design.

Height adjustment is a common feature of Japanese-style office chairs, applicable to most models. To adjust, locate the hand control device beneath or on the side of the seat, typically a lever or knob. For pneumatic height adjustment models, pull up the lever and repeatedly push the seat up and down to the desired height, or adjust from a standing position so that the front of the chair is just below the knees, ensuring a comfortable sitting posture with legs naturally bent. Some models may use a knob for adjustment, requiring clockwise or counterclockwise rotation to slowly raise or lower the seat, while maintaining body balance during the process to avoid sudden force causing the seat to become uncontrollable.

Recline adjustment methods vary by model, with mainstream designs including mechanical knob, pneumatic rod linkage, and smart touch. Mechanical knob adjustment requires pushing the seat cushion forward until the legs are naturally bent at 90 degrees, then adjusting the recline angle using a metal knob on the left side of the backrest. The knob is usually marked with graduations or resistance levels, allowing users to select the appropriate recline force according to their needs. Pneumatic rod linkage adjustment requires pressing the button on the lower right side of the seat cushion, straightening the back, releasing the button, and then holding the handle to complete adaptive recline. This design is usually linked with the height adjustment function, requiring body stability during adjustment. Smart touch adjustment requires authentication through a companion app, selecting a work mode, after which the system generates a personalized adjustment plan, suitable for high-end models or office chairs integrated with smart systems.

Specific model adjustment functions are more targeted. For example, the Okamura Sylphy series in Japan supports recline force adjustment, allowing users to adjust the resistance during recline using a knob or lever beneath the backrest to meet the needs of different weights or usage habits. The Sylphy Light model emphasizes the adjustability of lumbar support, with the lumbar support position movable up and down via sliders or buttons on the side to adapt to the lumbar curves of users of different heights, providing more precise support.

When adjusting, pay attention to safety, avoiding sudden standing up or applying excessive force during the process to prevent damage to the mechanical structure or pneumatic device. If the seat remains unstable or makes unusual noises after adjustment, it is recommended to contact after-sales service for inspection and repair.
