Is the Office Chair Qualified?
There are differences in the qualification status of office chairs, with some products being unqualified. Here is a detailed analysis:

In the international market, on March 2, 2023, the United States and Canada implemented recall measures for office chairs made in China. The reason for the recall was that the backrests of these office chairs might pose a risk of breaking. Once the backrest breaks, users are at risk of falling, which seriously threatens their safety. This indicates that the recalled Chinese-made office chairs at that time did not meet local safety standards and were unqualified products.
In the domestic market, on September 30, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation conducted a national supervision and random inspection of office chairs. The inspection results showed that 15 batches of products were unqualified, with an unqualified discovery rate of 14.9%. The specific unqualified items include several aspects:
- Unqualified stability: Seven batches of products had stability issues. Stability is an important performance indicator for office chairs. Unstable office chairs are prone to tipping over during use, posing safety hazards to users. For example, when a person changes their normal sitting posture or makes slight movements, they may fall due to the instability of the chair.
- Unqualified reciprocating wear of casters: Five batches of products had substandard reciprocating wear of casters. Casters are the key components that enable office chairs to move flexibly. If the reciprocating wear of casters is unqualified, it will affect the smooth movement of the office chair, shorten the service life of the casters, and may also cause problems such as stuttering or sudden stops during movement, leading to users losing their balance and getting injured.
- Unqualified formaldehyde emission: Four batches of products had excessive formaldehyde emissions. Formaldehyde is a harmful substance. Long-term exposure to excessive formaldehyde can cause harm to human health, such as respiratory diseases and allergic reactions. Especially in a relatively enclosed office environment, office chairs with unqualified formaldehyde emissions will continuously release formaldehyde, threatening the health of users.
