International Furniture - Office Chairs
Admin October 12, 2026
Among international furniture brands, Steelcase and Vitra hold high recognition in the field of office chairs. The following provides an introduction from three aspects: brand background, product features, and market regulatory dynamics.

I. Brand Background and Product Features
- Steelcase: As an international office furniture brand with a 113-year history, its flagship product, the Gesture ergonomic chair, is hailed as the "Chair King". This chair features an integrated backrest design and adapts to the natural curve of the human spine through dynamic support technology, making it particularly suitable for long-term office scenarios. Its core advantage lies in providing all-around support for the shoulders, waist, and hips, effectively alleviating fatigue from prolonged sitting and enhancing work efficiency.
- Vitra: A Swiss high-end design brand, since its establishment in 1950, it has always adhered to the philosophy of "design improving environmental quality". Its office chair products integrate ergonomics with artistic aesthetics. For example, its series of works created in collaboration with renowned designers not only focus on functionality but also enhance spatial design through material selection (such as eco-friendly recycled materials) and color matching. After entering the Chinese market in 2006, it primarily targets high-end commercial spaces and design enthusiasts.
II. Market Regulation and Safety Risks
- International Recall Incidents:
- In March 2023, the United States and Canada recalled some office chairs produced in China due to the risk of backrest breakage, which could lead to falls. Twelve related reports had been received, including ten cases of injuries.
- In January 2025, the United States recalled the WorkPro Momentum office chairs produced in China again because the bolts might fail, causing falls. Seven reports were involved, including two cases of minor injuries.
- Domestic Inspection Situation: In September 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation conducted a national supervisory inspection of office chairs and found that 15 batches of products were unqualified, mainly due to insufficient stability, which could lead to tipping risks.
III. Purchase Recommendations
- Prioritize Well-Known Brands: Such as Steelcase and Vitra, whose products have passed strict quality certifications and have more mature ergonomic designs.
- Pay Attention to Safety Standards: Check whether the products have passed certifications from BIFMA (Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association) or GB/T (Chinese National Standards), focusing on stability, load-bearing capacity, and material safety.
- Test-Sit Experience: Before purchasing, actually test the backrest support, seat cushion comfort, and adjustment functions to ensure they meet personal usage habits.
- Regular Maintenance: Avoid prolonged overloading, regularly check whether components such as screws and gas rods are loose to extend the product's lifespan and reduce safety hazards.
