Instability of Hydraulic Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

The instability of hydraulic office chairs may be caused by issues with the hydraulic rod, loose screws, caster problems, or material problems. Here is a detailed analysis:

Hydraulic rod issues are a common cause of chair instability. Gas leakage inside the hydraulic rod can lead to seal failure, with over 90% of such failures stemming from aging or damage to the seals of the gas spring (hydraulic rod). When the hydraulic rod is damaged, sitting on the chair will feel particularly loose at the connection between the seat and the base, and there will be stuttering during lifting and lowering. If black oil stains are found on the rod, it indicates that the seal ring is leaking gas, and at this point, the supporting force of the hydraulic rod will gradually weaken, ultimately resulting in the seat sinking automatically and causing the chair to become unstable.

Loose screws are also a factor that cannot be ignored. If the screws at the connections of the five-star base, chassis, etc., are loose, it will lead to instability in the overall structure of the chair. For example, if the screws under the armrests are loose, it may cause the chair to produce obvious abnormal noises and a sense of wobbling when shaken. Therefore, regularly checking and tightening these screws is an important measure to maintain the stability of the chair.

Caster problems can also affect the stability of the chair. If the casters are entangled with hair or other debris, or if the wheels are suspended (such as when the ground is uneven and some wheels cannot touch the ground), it will cause the chair to wobble when moving or remaining stationary. The solution to this problem is to regularly clean the debris on the casters and ensure that the chair is placed on a flat surface.

Material problems may also cause the chair to become unstable. If the user's weight exceeds the designed load-bearing capacity of the chair (such as exceeding 100 kilograms), or if a chair with a low price and poor quality is purchased (such as a cheap one costing two or three hundred yuan), the material of the chair may not be able to withstand long-term usage pressure, leading to structural deformation or damage and, consequently, causing the chair to become unstable. Therefore, when choosing a chair, one should select a product with reliable quality and an appropriate load-bearing capacity according to one's own needs and budget.
