Hydraulic Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 16, 2026

The disassembly of a hydraulic office chair should be carried out according to standardized procedures. The core process includes preparing tools, removing the base, handling the hydraulic rod, disassembling other components, and taking precautions. Details are as follows:

I. Preparing Tools and Protective Gear

Prioritize using non-metallic tools such as rubber hammers, flat-head screwdrivers, and hex wrenches to avoid scratching the chair surface or damaging components. Wear gloves and safety goggles to prevent parts from flying off or skin injuries during disassembly.

II. Removing the Base

  1. Securing the Chair: Invert the chair onto old clothes or bubble wrap to prevent the base's steel ring from directly contacting the ground and causing scratches.
  2. Loosening the Base: Use a rubber hammer to evenly tap around the base's steel ring. Once loosened, try to pry it open by hand or gently kick the edge of the base. If the base is stuck, repeat tapping or apply a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) into the gap, wait 5-10 minutes, and then attempt disassembly again.

III. Handling the Hydraulic Rod

  1. Disassembling the Seat and Rod:
    • Remove the fixing screws at the bottom of the seat and use a hex wrench to rotate them counterclockwise to exit;
    • After securing the hydraulic rod, tap the edge of the metal base with a rubber hammer while stepping on the base to assist in loosening.
  2. Special Structure Handling:
    • If the hydraulic rod has an inverted cone design, raise the gas rod to its highest position before disassembly;
    • If the hydraulic rod is tightly connected to the five-star base, invert the five-star base, place a soft rubber gasket (such as thick paper or wood) under the tail of the gas rod, and then gently tap the gasket multiple times with an iron hammer until the gas rod falls off.
  3. Forced Disassembly Method (Backup): Raise the gas rod to its highest position, invert the chair to leave the bottom of the gas rod empty, and use an iron hammer with a diameter of at least three centimeters to strike forcefully around the gas rod or strike the bottom edge of the gas rod. Use maximum force and strike as quickly as possible to dislodge it.

IV. Disassembling Other Components

  1. Backrest and Armrests: Use a hex wrench to rotate counterclockwise and remove the fixing screws of the backrest and armrests. Hold the base when removing the last screw to prevent components from suddenly falling.
  2. Five-Star Base: Gently tap the bottom of the five-star base with a rubber hammer to detach it from the ground, and then use a wrench to remove the screws connecting the five-star base to the ground.

V. Key Precautions

  1. Force Control: Avoid using excessive force when tapping or disassembling to prevent component deformation or damage to the internal structure of the hydraulic rod.
  2. Handling Abnormal Situations: If the hydraulic rod leaks oil, is internally stuck, or has a complex structure (such as with a locking mechanism), it is recommended to stop disassembly and contact the manufacturer's after-sales service or a professional repair technician.
  3. Model Differences: Disassembly steps may vary slightly for chairs of different brands/models. Before operation, refer to the product manual or consult customer service.
  4. Component Management: After disassembly, it is recommended to store screws and small parts separately to avoid loss. During reassembly, follow the reverse order and ensure that all components are firmly connected.
