How to Weld Office Chairs
There is no unified standard method for welding office chairs, but you can refer to the welding ideas for square-tube chairs and combine them with the structural characteristics of office chairs. Generally, arc welding is used. Here are the specific steps and key points:

Material and Tool Preparation
- Materials: Select square tubes of appropriate specifications according to the design of the office chair. Common ones include 3x3 and 2x2 square tubes, which are used to make the chair's frame, legs, and other parts. You also need to prepare matching connectors such as corner brackets to enhance the stability of the welded structure.
- Tools: An arc welding machine is the main welding equipment. It melts the welding rod and the base metal through the high temperature generated by the arc to achieve connection. In addition, you need to prepare an angle grinder for grinding the welded parts to remove burrs and oxide layers and ensure welding quality. Measuring tools such as tape measures and square rulers are used to accurately measure the dimensions and angles of the square tubes to ensure accurate dimensions and symmetrical structures for each part of the chair.
Cutting Square Tubes
According to the design drawings of the office chair, use cutting tools (such as an abrasive wheel cutting machine) to cut the square tubes to the required lengths. For example, different lengths of square tubes may be needed for the chair legs, and the length of the square tubes for the seat frame should also be determined according to the size of the seat. During the cutting process, ensure that the cutting surface is flat and perpendicular to avoid beveling, which would affect the subsequent welding quality and the overall stability of the chair.
Assembly and Positioning
Assemble the cut square tubes according to the design requirements for preliminary assembly. Use tools such as square rulers to check whether the angles between the components are right angles to ensure that the chair's frame structure is square. You can use clamps or temporary fixing devices to secure the components in the correct positions to prevent displacement during the welding process.
Welding Operation
Use the arc welding method for welding. When welding, maintain appropriate welding current and voltage and adjust them according to the thickness and material of the square tubes. During the welding process, pay attention to the angle of the welding rod and the welding speed to make the welds uniform and full and avoid defects such as pores and slag inclusions. For some key connection parts of the chair, such as the connection between the chair legs and the seat frame, you can use a multi-layer and multi-pass welding method to increase the welding strength.
Post-Welding Treatment
After welding is completed, use an angle grinder to grind the welds to make their surfaces smooth and flat and remove welding slag and splashes. Check the welded parts for defects such as cracks and incomplete fusion. If necessary, carry out repair welding in a timely manner. Finally, conduct an overall debugging of the office chair to check whether the connections between the components are firm and whether the moving parts are flexible.
